The
Senior SCADA Operations Technician Iprovides advanced technical support for plant control and SCADA systems across multiple sites, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned locations or regions. It leads Tier 1 support and triage activities, ensures service-level compliance, and resolves complex or recurring technical issues by working closely with engineers, developers, and OEM vendors. The role also focuses on improving support processes through documentation, knowledge management, tool development, and root cause analysis, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, it provides technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff and requires strong knowledge of SCADA platforms, industrial automation, networking fundamentals, and coordination across SCADA, IT, and engineering teams.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead support for a group of sites or systems, providing advanced troubleshooting and mentoring junior technicians.
- Own triage workflows and ensure SLA adherence across Tier 1 support queues
- Coordinate directly with developers, engineers, and OEM vendors to resolve persistent technical issues.
- Drive process improvements in SCADA ticket handling, knowledge management, and documentation.
- Collaborate on tool enhancements (e.g., dashboards, alerting tools) to increase system reliability.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement for recurring plant control issues
- Expert in platform-specific plant controls workflows and support processes. Provides advanced diagnostics and technical resolution.
- Solves complex plant control system issues involving networked devices and data integrity.
- Coordinates across SCADA, IT, and engineering teams to drive issue resolution. Acts as a point of contact for specific sites or regions.
- Provides task leadership and mentorship to junior specialists and technicians.
- A Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience
- SCADA Systems: GE, Vestas, SGRE, Ovation, Wonderware, Rockwell, etc.
- Basic understanding of SEL equipment and substations.
- Knowledge of basic networking and topologies.
- Knowledge of using/managing ticketing systems such as Jira, ServiceNow, etc.
- Data visualization and reporting capabilities
- Understanding of energy management strategies
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems (preferred)
- Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work within tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
- Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables.
- Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds

- This position is a hybrid 3-day office-based role with 15% travel and visits to other RWE Americas offices and field locations
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range:The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $140,000-$153,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
