The Sr. Instrumentation/Electronics Technician performs journey-level work associated with the repair, maintenance, and installation of instrumentation, process control equipment, and various other electronic equipment throughout WSSC Water.
Provides guidance to Instrumentation Electronics Technicians with trouble shooting and maintenance of instrumentation and process control equipment
- Ensures that electronic equipment and various types of instrumentation functions properly
- Ensures that process controllers are functioning properly and changes control logic parameters where necessary
- Uses industrial test equipment such as digital multimeters, HART communicators, and other specialized test equipment to monitor and calibrate electronic and instrumentation systems
- Maintains records on testing, calibration and repairs of equipment; this includes maintenance record keeping using a computerized maintenance management system
- Participates in preventive maintenance program(s)
- Assists with drawings of modifications to existing systems
- Provides input as to the reliability of current and new instruments and systems for use at WSSC Water facilities
- Inspects the work of contractors at new and existing sites
- Confers with manufacturer’s representatives to determine reason for problems, possible remedies and/or applicability of equipment to meet WSSC Water’s needs
- Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
- Biosolids Management Division – Performs light, basic electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of electronics theory and of the methods and practices of electronic equipment and instrumentation equipment repair
- Thorough knowledge of the theory of operation and maintenance of process control instrumentation
- Ability to investigate and develop solutions for difficult technical problems
- Ability to read instrumentation data accurately and to create and maintain documentation records
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 7+ years’ experience that includes: - 3+ years advanced process control experience- Using industrial test equipment such as digital multimeters and HART protocol programming software to monitor and calibrate instrumentation systems
- Servicing equipment such as level indicators/controllers, flow indicators/controllers, current indicators/controllers, temperature indicator/controllers, and analytical instrumentation
- Maintaining records on testing, calibration and repairs of instruments
- Maintaining automated control processors including assisting in programming changes needed to change setpoints or functional operations of systems
