The Senior Cost Accountant performs accounting functions consisting of inventory valuation and accurate tracking and analysis of production costs, including material and operating costs. Responsibilities include preparation of standard costs including labor, machine hours, manufacturing overhead, and other various operating costs and its impact on financial statements. Assist in month end closing responsibilities, inventory cycle counts, scrap valuation analysis and annual physical inventory.
- Assists Controller with month end closing, including journal entries, inventory valuation, and preparation of financial reports. In addition, oversee financial system and reporting improvements.
- Partners with key internal customers to ensure accurate sales, inventory, receivables, and payables monthly cutoff. Assists in reliable financial reporting and analysis.
- Supports monthly and year end closing process. Maintain an accurate perpetual inventory and Standard Cost System.
- Prepares yearly Cost Standards to be used for product costing throughout the company. Update monthly commodity prices/standards as needed throughout the year.
- Performs inventory cycle counting and scrap accounting process, interacting with manufacturing, process engineers and outside vendors.
- Prepares and processes new part number cost roll ups as needed.
- Assists with developing OH cost pool for Budgeting, Standards and Variance analysis
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by the controller or CFO.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, MBA preferred.
- 7 plus years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical skills in account reconciliation, cost analysis, month end and year end close responsibilities.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP) and their application within a manufacturing environment.
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Experience working with outside auditors and preparation of auditing information.
- Planning and organization skills.
- Strong internal and external customer orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.
- Proficiency in use of Company Wide ERP system and modules as well as overlay products (Qlik).
- Problem analysis and resolution skills.
