Overview
FHG Inc. is looking for a talented, experienced, and hard-working Site Safety Manager (SSM) to join our team. This individual must be passionate about building upon existing programs and policies to advance our safety culture across the organization. This role will serve entirely in the field alongside our production team and subcontractor partners, while leading and serving as a resource for field aspects of employee health and safety, in a manner consistent with the mission and values of FHG, Inc. Essential to success in this role is the ability to establish trust and credibility with our field teams to effectively drive proactive behavior that results in safe and incident-free work environments for all employees. The initial assignment for this position will be on a long-term new construction site in La Porte, Indiana, with our Major Projects Division. Potential additional assignments may be available, depending on project needs and successful performance on the first assignment. This position will report to FHG’s Field Safety Manager and work closely with the site project team, to include a construction manager, material manager and QA/QC.

Essential Responsibilities
•Carry the company vision to achieve 0 injuries by effectively participating as a member of the company Safety Team and utilizing the safety system in place.
•Gain trust and credibility with project and operations personnel, field crew members and subcontractor workers by intentionally developing relationships and delivering practical solutions with tangible results.
•Empower field leadership with safety-related guidance so they can ensure their employees are working safety and in compliance with OSHA regulations, safe industry practices, customer-specific policies and FHG policies. Work with site and subcontractor leadership to correct any issues that may arise.
•Conduct frequent jobsite inspections and worker behavior observations.
•Cultivate positive and productive working relationships with customer representatives to ensure they are satisfied with our safe work practices and procedures.
•Onboard new employees in the field using the proper procedures, ensuring paperwork and training have been properly conducted, per FHG and site/customer requirements.
•Mentor and coach new field employees (especially those new to our industry) on safe work practices.
•Participate in weekly Safety Team meetings by providing updates on site safety conditions and completing tasks that arise from those meetings, such as collecting employee feedback on proposed new safety policies.
•Complete incident reports and conduct incident investigations, as necessary.
•Drive participation in safety incentive programs, such as our Good Catch / Near Miss program, to help employees see the value of active hazard recognition.
•Complete daily, site-specific Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms to cover with the crew.
•Lead morning safety meetings in front of crews, prompting active crew member participation in the JSA process.
•Draft/complete other safety-related, site-specific paperwork as needed, such as excavation daily permits, calibration logs and fall protection rescue plans.
•Conduct training as necessary and qualified, according to employees’ needs, such as operator training on heavy equipment.
•Manage the care of any injured employees by ensuring they get the care they need as quickly as possible, whether on site or at a nearby medical facility. Stay in contact with employees and assist in their recovery.
•Assist in developing job-specific safety plans and monitor plan implementation to ensure full compliance.
•Assist in developing and implementing corporate safety programs and/or initiatives to prevent and reduce the likelihood of accidents and exposure to long-term health hazards.
•Identify and address hazards and undesirable behaviors in the workplace that extend past written policies and procedures based on prior construction experience and knowledge.
•Advise operational leadership on matters of environmental concern to the project and assist in developing plans to prevent or mitigate effects of our work on the environment.
•Other duties as assigned by the Field Safety Manager or Health & Safety Manager.
Qualifications
•Either (a) Minimum 1 year of experience in safety OR (b) Minimum 5 years of field experience in oil & gas industry construction/maintenance, with a demonstrated knowledge of construction safety.
•Knowledge of OSHA standards and proficiency in applying them to construction projects.
•Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting incident investigations is highly desired.
•Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities.
•Experience in environmental impacts of construction work a plus.
•Experience developing and delivering training.
•Strong attention to detail.
•Team player with excellent communication skills.
