Reporting to the Site Environmental Coordinator, the Site Environmental Technician plays a key role in executing environmental monitoring and protection programs at the Rook I site. This is a field-focused position where you will collect high-quality data, support compliance activities, and help ensure environmental controls are in place and effective across construction and operations. The incumbent will be part of a collaborative team that values practical solutions, strong field execution, and continuous improvement.
Location
This position will be based at the Rook I site on a 2 week in/2 week out schedule. Accommodations and meals are provided while on rotation. Travel logistics to/from site are coordinated by NexGen.
- Perform environmental sampling and monitoring including water, groundwater, air/dust, soil, vegetation, wildlife, and noise.
- Follow strict QA/QC and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain environmental monitoring equipment (e.g., GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.).
- Work closely with Rook I site teams and external stakeholders to reinforce environmental expectations ensure environmental controls are in place and working.
- Verify erosion and sediment control measures and other mitigation systems.
- Participate in field-level planning, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Complete field documentation and inspection records such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms, project field reports, field notes, monitoring and chain-of-custody forms.
- Support environmental reporting and data collection requirements.
- Assist with inspections, audits, and tracking corrective actions.
- Support spill prevention, maintain response readiness, and assist with spill response, containment, cleanup, and reporting.
- Assist with waste segregation, labeling, and tracking.
- Verify proper handling of fuels, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
- Enter and verify environmental data in databases and systems ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of data.
- Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–5 years of environmental field experience (mining, construction, or industrial preferred).
- Experience with environmental sampling and monitoring programs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and permits.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to work in remote northern conditions.
- Knowledge of erosion and sediment control, water management, or waste management is an asset.
- Experience with environmental databases (e.g., EQuIS) or GIS tools is preferred.
- Spill response and/or First Aid certifications is an asset.
