We're Hiring: Shop Manager – Lead Our Skilled Sheet Metal Team
We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Shop Manager to lead day-to-day operations in our growing sheet metal fabrication shop. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, production-driven environment and is passionate about team management, operational efficiency, and quality workmanship.
As Shop Manager, you’ll play a key role in driving production, managing personnel, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring that customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time. You'll also support hiring efforts and act as a liaison between shop staff and senior management.
About Us
Our shop is located at 1604 Michael Street, and we operate Monday to Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. As a growing company, we are committed to building a team of skilled professionals who take pride in their work.
Responsibilities
•Develop and manage the production schedule for the shop.
•Screen job applicants for the shop and assist in conducting interviews with potential candidates.
•Assess the need for overtime, consult with the owner for final approval, and coordinate with employees regarding their availability.
•Lead shop meetings focused on production updates.
•Monitor inventory levels, consult with the owner to confirm reorder quantities, and place orders as needed.
•Enhance job and time management practices within the shop.
•Assist with cutting and bending materials according to customer specifications on work orders, when necessary.
•Adhere to and enforce health and safety protocols.
•Ensure a clean and safe work environment is maintained.
•Ensure the safety representative holds monthly safety meetings and maintains a written record of each meeting.
•Assist customers with locating and loading their orders, and ensure they sign the work order.
•Assist with unloading and storing materials received from suppliers.
•Quality control of flats sheets as well as finished products.
•Monthly meeting with management team in regards to shop operations and employees.
Skills & Qualifications
•Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials (e.g., gauge, aluminum, etc.).
•Experience operating sheet metal shop equipment (e.g., shears, CNC Folders).
•Intermediate math skills (angles, fractions, etc.).
•Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
•Understanding of standard safety practices.
•Forklift operation experience is an asset.
•Leadership and management qualities are expected.
•Strong organizational skills
