Summary
The Shop Manager is responsible for the daily leadership, safety, and financial performance of their assigned shop. This role includes oversight of Shop Technicians, workload scheduling, inventory coordination, and facility safety. The Shop Manager ensures repairs, maintenance, and overhauls are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with customer expectations and company standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•Lead and manage daily activities of shop technicians, including task assignments and time management based on operational priorities and manpower availability.
•Ensure work quality, accuracy, and compliance with customer requirements and internal standards.
•Collaborate with field operations, engineering, and support teams to coordinate job priorities and timelines.
•Monitor workflow efficiency and initiate corrective actions as needed to meet or exceed production targets.
•Ensure timely completion of work orders and accurate labor hour reporting.
•Monitor and manage shop budget, including labor costs, tool expenditures, and parts usage.
•Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, rework, and unnecessary spending through improved processes and resource planning.
•Promote a strong safety culture and participate in regular safety meetings.
•Ensure the shop remains organized, clean, and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
•Other duties as may be assigned.
Education & Certifications
•High school diploma or GED required.
•Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.
Work Experience
•7+ years of progressive experience in natural gas compression.
•5+ years in a supervisory capacity within a shop or service environment.
Skills & Abilities
•Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
•Proficient understanding of gas compression systems and mechanical troubleshooting.
•Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust resources dynamically.
•Strong verbal and written communication.
•High attention to detail and focus on efficiency and continuous improvement.
•Solid knowledge of work order systems, repair processes, and basic cost controls.
Physical Demands
•Requires operation of heavy equipment.
•High noise environment (>85dba) will occur with ear protection.
•Potential, controlled, exposure to hazardous chemicals.
•Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions—stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
•Must wear all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
•Requires an employee to frequently type and use computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, calendar, telephone, etc.
•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unaided
•Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
•Up to 25% travel required.
