Summary of Position
The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a mechanical or industrial shop, ensuring workflow efficiency, safety compliance, and high-quality service delivery. This role includes managing staff, coordinating repair and maintenance activities, maintaining inventory and equipment, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The Shop Manager also plays a key role in budgeting, scheduling, and implementing best practices to optimize productivity and profitability.
Essential Job Requirements:
•Oversee shop activities to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of work orders.
•Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate shop personnel; promote teamwork and ensure adherence to company policies.
•Monitor and manage inventory levels, order supplies and parts as needed, and track usage to prevent shortages or excess.
•Ensure all shop tools and equipment are properly maintained, serviced, and safely operated.
•Assign and prioritize work orders, track progress, and communicate with clients or internal departments on job status.
•Inspect completed jobs for accuracy and quality, ensuring all work meets company standards and customer expectations.
•Enforce all safety protocols and procedures, conduct regular inspections, and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
•Assist in preparing and managing the shop’s budget, including labor, materials, and overhead costs.
•Communicate with customers (or internal departments) to resolve issues, provide estimates, and ensure satisfaction with services.
•Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inventory, employee hours, and compliance reports.
•Capable of developing and implementing a quality control program for shop related services.
•Assist the business development team with client presentations and meetings promoting shop services.
•This position is safety sensitive.

Required Education
•High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
•Minimum 5–7 years of experience in rotating equipment maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
•At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role within a shop or industrial setting.
Required Experience
•5+ years of experience in rotating equipment manufacturing and/or repair.
•OSHA 10/30 Certification (Preferred but not required)
•API, ASME, or manufacturer-specific training in rotating equipment (Preferred but not required.)
•Experience with implementing and enforcing safety programs and policies.
Required Skills
•Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate shop personnel.
•Skilled in scheduling, resource planning, and workflow optimization.
•Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook
•Ability to generate reports and maintain documentation on job progress, inventory, and performance.
•Excellent verbal and written communication
•Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
•Strong understanding of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, and motors.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
•Familiarity with precision measurement tools and alignment techniques (e.g., dial indicators, laser alignment).
•Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and shop best practices.
•Understanding of QA/QC standards in an industrial environment.
Equipment Used
•Knowledge of inspection equipment and inspection of machined parts.
•Knowledge of machine tools, manual machining and programming.

This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a shop environment.
Pay Range: $140,000-160,000 yearly
