The Shop Lead (Electrical Backbone) is a critical leadership role responsible for managing all electrical backbone activities in Bay 3, ensuring the integrity and functionality of the turbine packaging system’s primary electrical infrastructure.
This position oversees S4 kit activities and S0D work, including mounting MCC backbones, installing trunk cable ladders, routing primary control harnesses, and performing continuity and insulation resistance (IR) testing.
The Shop Lead also leads the electrical quality discipline for early stations, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and industry standards.
The role requires proficiency in using specialized tooling and fixtures such as cable ladders, roller stands, crimp and test benches, IR meggers, and continuity meters.
Acting as a hands-on leader, the Bay 3 Shop Lead drives safety, quality, and efficiency while mentoring technicians and collaborating with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical challenges.

- Lead the mounting of MCC backbones, ensuring proper alignment and secure fastening per engineering specifications.
- Install trunk cable ladders and verify structural integrity for cable routing.
- Route and secure primary control harnesses, maintaining bend radius and clearance requirements.
- Build harness stubs and panels according to traveler instructions.
- Perform pinout verification for all harnesses and ensure correct labeling and bagging for traceability.
- Prepare and stage electrical components for downstream bays.
- Conduct continuity checks and insulation resistance (IR) testing using megger and continuity meters.
- Validate electrical integrity before advancing assemblies to subsequent bays.
- Document all test results and traveler updates for compliance and traceability.
- Safely operate and maintain specialized tools and fixtures:
- Cable ladders and roller stands for harness routing.
- Crimp and test benches for harness fabrication.
- IR megger and continuity meters for electrical verification.
- Ensure calibration and readiness of all test equipment.
- Act as a hands-on leader, mentoring technicians on electrical assembly best practices and safety protocols.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to production schedules.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Enforce electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements.
- Ensure proper PPE usage and adherence to lockout/tagout procedures during electrical work.
- Conduct pre-task safety checks and report any hazards or incidents promptly.
- Work closely with Engineering for technical clarifications and design adjustments.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance for inspections and traveler sign-offs.
- Communicate with Operations and Supply Chain teams regarding material availability and workflow priorities.
- Maintain accurate traveler documentation for all electrical work performed.
- Report progress, issues, and resources needs to Operations and Manufacturing Management.
- Support audits and compliance reviews by providing detailed records of assembly and testing activities.- 5+ years in electrical assembly or industrial wiring in heavy manufacturing environments - 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role
- Technical diploma in: Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics or related field
- Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E compliance)
- Forklift Operation
- Crimping & Harness Assembly Training
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (Green Belt)
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Experience mountingMCC backbones and trunk cable ladders.
- Experience routing and securing primary control harnesses.
- Ability to build harness stubs and panels per traveler instructions.
- Experience in continuity testing using digital meters.
- Experience performing Insulation Resistance (IR) testing with megger equipment.
- Proficiency with crimp tools and test benches.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- An understanding of S4 kit and S0D delta work processes.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for traveler initiation

- Ensure all sales team members are trained on site-specific safety protocols when visiting customer facilities or field operations.
- Participate in any required drug and alcohol testing. This position is considered safety sensitive.
- Understand and comply with the X-Group's safety polices, safe work pos, protocols, procedures, and rules.
- Wear required safety equipment and personal protective devices, including clothing mandated by legislation and the employer.
- Ensure the worksites is free of hazards that could cause slips, trips, or falls.
- Notify supervisors of any unsafe conditions or acts that may endanger workers.
- Report all accidents and Injuries to supervisors es soon as possible.
- Take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of other workers and oneself.
- Maintain a valid Driver's License and a clean driver's abstract.
- Maintain a valid passport and can travel internationally as required.
- Maintain a clean criminal background check.
- Prolong periods of standing and walking throughout the shop floor
