Shop Foreman / Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic
We are looking for a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic / Shop Foreman to join our shop in Sexsmith, AB. This role is responsible for the mechanical maintenance of vehicles and equipment, while also providing leadership and oversight to ensure shop operations run smoothly. A strong mechanical background, coupled with the ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate a team, will guarantee success in this role.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and instruction to mechanics, apprentices, and shop personnel
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met
- Act as a key point of contact between management and shop team members
- Support scheduling of preventative maintenance and repairs for fleet and equipment
- Inspect and examine vehicles and equipment
- Service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain vehicles and equipment, and perform other routine maintenance work
- Troubleshoot to determine cause and effect of mechanical failures
- Ensure shop equipment, tools, and work areas are properly maintained and safe to use
- Assist with parts ordering, inventory management, and record-keeping of completed work
- Participate in and promote a strong HSE culture, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory safety standards
- Assist in general shop/yard upkeep and organization
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification is required; as a journeyman, it is anticipated you will have a basic set of trades tools
- Previous leadership or shop foreman experience is a strong asset
- Experience in a shop environment with heavy trucks and equipment required
- Heavy equipment technician or operator training is an asset
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and coach apprentices and junior mechanics
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal
- Safe driving skills; driver’s abstract will be requested
- Physically fit – heavy lifting required
- Class 5 driver’s license
