Role and Responsibilities
The shipper will work with the shipping department and report to the shipping supervisor. The shipper’s responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:
•Assist in loading flat beds and rail cars under the direction of the shipping supervisor.
•Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move structural steel to and from production areas, loading docks, yards, etc.
•Safely use power tools and some hand tools to create the proper cribbing for structural steel to sit on for safe and secure transporting. (example: Chainsaw, hammer, tape measure, etc.)
•Record pieces being loaded using a scanning system to ensure correct material is being delivered as well as recording this information on paperwork provided by the supervisor.
•Keep loading area and yard clear of obstacles that would present unsafe working conditions while loading.
•Safely secure small parts, buckets and/or other small products to pallets using a banding
machine and plastic wrap.
•Ensure full compliance in accordance with the Banker Steel Company safety program and 8 cardinal rules as outlined upon employment within the organization.
Skills and Requirements
•GED or high school diploma preferred.
•Overhead crane and forklift experience preferred.
•Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
•Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays.
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to constantly work in various indoor and outdoor conditions including hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
•Must be able to lift a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
•Must be able to carry a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
•Frequent standing, walking, reaching forward, balancing, feeling, object handling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping, and operating controls will be required.
•Regular sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, stooping, and crouching will be required.
•Must be able to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights more than 10 feet.
•Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
