Role and Responsibilities
The shipper will work with the shipping department and report to the shipping supervisor. The shipper’s responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:
•
Assist in loading flat beds and rail cars under the direction of the shipping supervisor.
•
Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move structural steel to and from production areas, loading docks, yards, etc.
•
Safely use power tools and some hand tools to create the proper cribbing for structural steel to sit on for safe and secure transporting. (example: Chainsaw, hammer, tape measure, etc.)
•
Record pieces being loaded using a scanning system to ensure correct material is being delivered as well as recording this information on paperwork provided by the supervisor.
•
Keep loading area and yard clear of obstacles that would present unsafe working conditions while loading.
•
Safely secure small parts, buckets and/or other small products to pallets using a banding
machine and plastic wrap.
•
Ensure full compliance in accordance with the Banker Steel Company safety program and 8 cardinal rules as outlined upon employment within the organization.
Skills and Requirements
•
GED or high school diploma preferred.
•
Overhead crane and forklift experience preferred.
•
Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
•
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays.
Physical Requirements:
•
Must be able to constantly work in various indoor and outdoor conditions including hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
•
Must be able to lift a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
•
Must be able to carry a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
•
Frequent standing, walking, reaching forward, balancing, feeling, object handling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping, and operating controls will be required.
•
Regular sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, stooping, and crouching will be required.
•
Must be able to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights more than 10 feet.
•
Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
