About This Job

Shipping Manager Key Responsibilities:

•

Manage and develop a team of drivers, forklift operators, and yard personnel

•

Build and secure structural steel loads for safe and efficient transport

•

Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized yard

•

Conduct daily vehicle inspections and ensure fleet readiness

•

Hold regular toolbox talks and trainings for shipping and yard personnel

•

Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, and job site teams

•

Ensure DOT compliance, accurate documentation, and jobsite delivery coordination

•

Operate heavy equipment, including a 28K forklift

•

Schedule and manage equipment maintenance and repairs

•

Record and report non-conformances.

•

Improve department using Lean methods

Shop Management.

•

Manage the scheduling of carriers for delivery of loads

•

Keep Fabsuite up to date at all times. (Steel management software)

•

Control and minimize labor overtime and keep premium freight to a minimum

•

Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives

•

Resolve issues regarding any shipped order

•

Proven work experience as a shipping supervisor

•

Proven leadership experience

•

Adequate knowledge of shipping processes

•

Knowledge of common carriers

•

Computer literacy in Fabsuite, MS word, MS Excel, and Outlook

•

Ability to create accountability and to lead by example

•

Drive and implement a safety culture and mindset first and foremost.

•

Hires, coaches, reviews, supervises, and terminates assigned employees, or make effective suggestions and recommendations that are given weight regarding the employment capabilities or employment status of assigned employees.

•

Work collaboratively with both internal and external customers to build strong relationships in line with S&H Steel’s core values.

•

Plans, develops, and implement work schedules, equipment usage schedules, production procedures, and daily cleaning schedules.

•

Maintain accountability and achievable action plans across shipping and receiving teams.

•

Research and implement process improvements with documentation and training.

•

Work creatively to resolve issues, overcome obstacles, and meet production goals.

•

Monitor and effectively manage the cleanliness of equipment and tools.

Qualifications

•

Structural steel experience required (fabrication, erection, or logistics)

•

Experience leading teams and developing frontline employees

•

Proficient in Tekla EPM/Fabsuite, Outlook, and Bluebeam

•

Ability to read and interpret load lists, project documents, and blueprints

•

Strong organizational, safety, and communication skills

•

Physically capable of lifting 75 lbs and handling demanding work environments

•

CDL not required
