The Senior Project Manager (Telecom) is responsible for the successful planning, execution, financial performance, and closeout of complex telecommunications construction projects. This role provides leadership across the full project lifecycle—from preconstruction through final as-builts—while partnering closely with field leadership, clients, engineers, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Define project objectives, scope, risks, assumptions, staffing plans, work breakdown structures, milestones, and deliverables for each awarded project.
- Lead project startup activities, including ROW permitting, project submittals, OUPS tickets, utility coordination, and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret project drawings and specifications; perform quantity takeoffs as required.
- Manage construction schedules, progress tracking, and field execution in coordination with Superintendents and field leadership.
- Perform field inspections of fiber placement, splicing, and testing to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Obtain and review pull test reports and other documentation required for customer as-built packages.
- Supports estimating efforts as needed; proficient in basic takeoffs, unit pricing, and cost validation.
- Develop and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, estimates, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Prepare and maintain cost trackers, monthly project reports, and project closeout documentation.
- Support the Director with weekly WIP reporting, financial analysis, and variance explanations.
- Price, budget, and manage project change orders.
- Assist with labor scheduling to align resources with project demands.
- Manage RFIs, invoices, change orders, and document control processes.
- Attend pre-bid, preconstruction, and owner/contractor/engineer meetings as required; document discussions and distribute meeting notes as appropriate.
- Ensure accurate and timely project closeout and as-built documentation.
- Serve as a key point of contact between field operations, subcontractors, engineers, estimators, and ownership.
- Assist the Director in coordinating communication across all project stakeholders.
- Identify project risks, constraints, or team conflicts and escalate as needed with recommended mitigation plans.
- Actively mentor and support project team members to drive accountability and performance.
- Maintain strong working relationships with customers, municipalities, utilities, and regulatory agencies.
- Support the development of new customer relationships and repeat business opportunities.
- Create and review AutoCAD, Revit, and PDF drawings, including design-build documentation as required.
- Support estimating efforts, including digital takeoffs and estimate development.
- Develop and maintain project-specific safety plans (SSPs).
- Verify and maintain required operator qualifications and compliance documentation.
- Actively participate in company programs, policies, and initiatives that promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support project and organizational success.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8–15+ years of telecommunications construction experience, including leadership on large-scale or complex fiber projects.- Demonstrated experience with:
- Aerial ADSS, lash and overlash systems
- Underground trenching and HDD bore construction
- Vaults, handholes, and conduit systems
- End-to-end fiber installation, splicing, testing, and as-built documentation
- Strong understanding of Tier 1 carriers, MSA contracts, and monthly cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Proficiency with industry software including Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Procore, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong financial acumen, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across field and office teams.
