Summary
The Senior Project Manager provides project management and oversight of construction, mechanical, electrical and civil activities in addition to quality control and contract compliance management for projects related to Vicinity Energy’s generating plants and distribution systems in the respective region. This is a full-time, exempt, non-union position located in Boston, MA. This position reports to the Director of Construction Projects.
Responsibilities
•Manage construction, abatement, mechanical installation, and insulation activities related to the maintenance, repair and improvement of Vicinity’s thermal plants and distribution systems.
•Ensure that all project related activities are in strict compliance with company and government agency environmental and safety requirements.
•Careful planning and coordination of project activities on Vicinity property, customer owned property, or within the densely populated public Right-of-Way within the region.
•Consistently provide prompt, appropriate, and effective communication regarding project activities and status to internal Vicinity departments, customers, vendors, contractors, government agencies or officials, and other stake holders.
•Ensure detailed documentation of project activities, manpower, expenses, and field changes.
•Perform review, verification and recommendation of contractor change order requests and invoicing, and/or project budget extensions.
•Verify quality control, contract compliance and completion of punch list items and close out activities for assigned projects.
•Act as Incident Commander as needed in the event of emergencies.
•Assist engineering, plant and distribution teams in design reviews of project drawings or documents for safety, suitability, constructability, efficiency, use of technology, integration with existing facilities, etc.
•Work directly with the engineering and operations teams in the planning and execution of capital and maintenance projects.
•Make recommendations to streamline procedures or methods to achieve improvement in team efficiencies.
•Able to communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of employees, customers, vendors and the public.
•Maintain safe working conditions. Identify, correct and report unsafe conditions in work areas.
•Maintain job site safety standards at the highest level and in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
•Participate in required safety and corporate compliance training as necessary.
•Perform all assignments in compliance with published company operating procedures.
•Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work off hours, extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays when needed.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
•Minimum of 10 years of construction management and project management experience.
•Safety certifications for permit required confined space entry, OSHA 30 certification.
Preferred Qualifications
•Current project management certification such as Certified Project Management Professional (CPMP), Construction Quality Management (CQM), or equivalent.
•Underground utility and plant construction experience.
•Previous experience managing projects valued between $100K and $5M.
•Strong level of experience managing contractors on construction and installation projects.
•Ability to read and understand mechanical and construction drawings, civil drawings, work scopes, contract documents and permits.
•Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
•Comfortable speaking in front of groups of people, coordinating and directing contractor personnel, vendors, other utilities, company personnel and outside agencies.
•Excellent verbal and written communications skill. Ability to complete accurate and timely daily reports for each project.
•Ability to build and maintain solid working relationships with outside entities.
•Ability to manage safe work environments with multiple trades and disciplines.
•Knowledge of city and municipal construction codes and traffic control requirements.
•Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management programs, project scheduling programs, Google related business applications.
Physical Requirements
•Must submit to physical exam and drug screening as part of pre-employment process.
•This position may require some travel up to 10% of the time.
•Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
•Standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and grating, working from elevated platforms, scaffolding or ladders,
•Ability to tolerate confined spaces, including manholes and varying temperatures and weather conditions.
•Exposed to temperature extremes, high noise level areas, high pressure steam lines, rotating equipment, and dusty/dirty environment.
•Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
