- Process bi-weekly full cycle payroll activities.
- Ensure Canadian payroll practices are effective and efficient, delivering accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Prepare remittances related to payroll and benefits, assist with year-end reporting (e.g., T4’s, T4A’s ).
- Maintain expert knowledge of payroll system and prevailing payroll/legislative practices.
- Meet payroll processing deadlines by ensuring that internal processes are effective and efficient.
- Identify errors and provide solutions/recommendations as required.
- Liaise with third party payroll vendor(s) regarding payroll and reporting delivery, and assist with review of performance and services as required
- Reconcile payroll accounts, and assist with month end activities.
- Ensure third party transactions are accurate and legislatively compliant.
- Ensure time and attendance practices are reliable and effective.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and related matters in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain confidential employee records in accordance with organizational policies and privacy standards.
- Generate custom and system-based reports for internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues and employees to address payroll, benefits, and RSP inquiries with professionalism and accuracy.
- Ensure accurate enrollment, maintenance, and termination of eligible employees in benefit systems, including processing changes as required.
- Support disability and leave management processes, ensuring documentation is complete and aligned with current practices.
- Administer group retirement savings plans, responding promptly to inquiries from employees.
- Continually reviews payroll systems for efficiency and accuracy, and recommends system improvements.
Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years direct experience in payroll administration with large organizations.
- Related education including National Payroll Institute designation.
- Knowledge of employment standards, Canadian Payroll legislation and tax regulations.
- Knowledge of US Payroll legislation and tax regulations are an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in full cycle payroll and benefit administration.
- Proven experience with HRIS/Payroll platforms, ideally using UKG.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Good judgment and decision making skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion and diplomacy.
