To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Senior P&C Field Engineer to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Senior P&C Field Engineer leads and performs testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment in substations and generation facilities, ensuring quality and reliability. They possess expertise in pilot channel equipment, such as power line carriers and fiber optics, to maintain optimal functionality. Additionally, they support engineering design projects by conducting wiring reviews, site walks, and commissioning evaluations for relay and switchgear upgrades. This role also involves collaborating with project teams, adhering to safety and industry standards, and mentoring junior engineers and technicians to strengthen the field service team.
Responsibilities
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of safe work practices in the electrical industry, ensuring adherence to stringent safety protocols and regulations to mitigate risks effectively.
• Possess a strong theoretical foundation in electric power systems and operations, enabling the application of advanced principles to troubleshoot and optimize system performance.
• Perform and direct a team during comprehensive testing on protection and control relays, including meticulous verification of voltage and current inputs, validation of local and SCADA metering accuracy, precise relay calibration, thorough functional testing, and meticulous verification of all alarms (local and SCADA) and function switches.
• Lead routine troubleshooting and efficient repair of substation relaying and control equipment to maintain optimal operational functionality. Commission new substations and power equipment, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of relaying systems (electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps), and controls and communications equipment.
• Operate and interpret meters and test equipment with proficiency, ensuring accurate readings and assessments of electrical components and systems.
• Demonstrate strong proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and wiring drawings, facilitating precise execution of wiring and testing procedures.
• Prepare detailed test reports documenting tests, maintenance activities, and repairs performed, providing comprehensive records of system conditions and actions taken.
• Effectively lead field crews, planning and assigning work assignments to optimize operational efficiency and uphold project specifications and timelines.
• Maintain and enforce rigorous safety standards across all field operations, ensuring compliance with industry and company regulations and fostering a culture of safety excellence.
• Demonstrate proficiency and expertise in utilizing a wide range of hand tools essential for electrical testing and maintenance.
• Possess extensive experience with major test equipment software, leveraging technological tools to streamline testing processes and enhance diagnostic capabilities.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
• 8+ years’ experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repair of substation relaying and control schemes underscores practical expertise.
• 5+ years’ experience leading project execution, system integration, and relay settings coordination.
• Previous involvement in substation design, construction, commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing is highly valued, showcasing comprehensive field experience.
• Proficiency in three-phase power systems, power system protection & control schemes, and utilization of test equipment and software demonstrates technical competence.
• Strong skills in interpreting wiring and elementary diagrams reflect adeptness in technical analysis and troubleshooting.
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines underscores strong project management capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) ensures effective communication and documentation of project activities.
• Exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills, fostering productive interactions with diverse stakeholders and ensuring clarity in technical communications.

• Primary office location is based on job location.
• Up to 70% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.

Working Conditions
This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.
Physical Requirements
The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
