The Senior Field Service Engineer is responsible for overseeing and performing installation, modification, commissioning, repair, maintenance and assisting customers in operating power automation systems including motors, electrical switchgear and switchboards, electronic controllers, PLCs and computers on board large ocean going vessels
The Senior Field Service Engineer will work closely with manufacturers, customers, vendors and other service partners to assure and improve operation of the equipment. This position will be hands-on and requires a varied skill set strong in value engineering and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities and Duties Troubleshooting by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems and using electrical meters, calibration equipment, mobile and handheld computer systems, hand tools, PLC, operator interface, data collection, and safety-related control systems
Supervising Field Technicians
Communication between cooperating parties and assist to ensure smooth operation of electrical and mechanical equipmentPerforming maintenance including field installation, validation, and testing of electronic, electric and mechanic components
Remove and replace defective parts by properly dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, examining form and texture of partsMaintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, rules, and regulations
Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge of low voltage and line voltage DC, AC and 3 phase systems and controlsExcellent written and verbal communication skills
Electrical/mechanical aptitude, advanced skills in software, electronics, low and high voltage electrical, mechanical and propulsion systems, automation, PLC programming, Ethernet network/Serial communicationBasic hydraulic and machine repair knowledge
Must be an avid user of computer software including Microsoft OfficeAbility to read, analyze and modify Schematics
Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customersManual dexterity required to operate machinery and repair equipment, able to climb ladders, stairs, and lift minimum 40 pounds
Willingness and desire to work independently. Able to work irregular and on call hoursBe able to pass a drug screening/background check upon request to work at customer sites, excellent clean driving record required
