YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:
Reporting to the Process Plant Assistant-Superintendent/Superintendent, the Senior Metallurgist works in close collaboration with his/her team members, the Operations and Maintenance teams, as well as members of the other departments. The incumbent coordinates all activities of the Process Plant Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and Refiners. He/she will ensure the good performance of all circuits of the process plant, as well as playing an important role in the review of the key performance indicators (KPI’s), in quality control and budget/cost management. He/she will ensure that goals and objectives are attained, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s company culture, health and safety code of conduct, and the environment.
•Coordinate activities of the Metallurgical team (including the refinery) to achieve departmental objectives sustainably.
•Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible way.
•Ensure the metallurgy group apply the supervision formula adequately.
•Coach Metallurgists and Metallurgical Technicians.
•Oversee sampling results, ensuring the sampling plan, practices, mass balance, daily production reports and inventory are accurate.
•Review and approve procedures content, ensuring that they are followed by the group.
•Ensures that metallurgists provide operator and technician training on the various circuits with an understanding of metallurgical results.
•Provide support to the operation for metallurgical performance improvement by giving the reasons and origins of the metallurgical team's instructions by proposing the appropriate tools to increase the company's profitability.
•Plan and budget the metallurgical activities ahead by 1 year, analyzing needs in terms of procurement (reagents, grinding media, process consumables, etc.), ordering materials and following up on actual costs and variances on a monthly basis.
•Review and approved daily, weekly and monthly production and performance reports, must also ensure that all reports are compliant with SOX.
•Promote continuous optimization of the process, identify proactively areas of improvement, coordinate trials, document findings in reports, act as a change agent, and keep the control plans up to date.
•Promote different approaches with research centers or other contact persons to elaborate or follow-up of new projects and/or developments. Ensure the follow-up with the different external laboratories for analyses and research work.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
•Bachelor’s degree in mining and Mineral Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or extended technical experience in the gold mining industry.
•Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing.
•Minimum 5 years of supervision experience in mineral processing.
•Sound technical and analytical skills, good practical judgment.
•Cultural awareness and understanding of work in the Canadian Arctic is an asset.
•Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership skills and ability to work in a team.
•Self-sufficient; effective time and priority management.
•Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
•Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written).
Your Work Schedule
•Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d’Or, Quebec.
