We are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer to support the Sentinel Project by preparing design and procurement documents and providing technical leadership in the development of fire protection systems and equipment. In this role, you will assist with design changes, testing, and system verification.
- Execute Fire Protection Engineering assignments for the project.
- Interpret, organize, and coordinate fire protection matters with internal teams and external partners.
- Develop design deliverables such as calculations, construction drawings, tailored Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and requisition specifications.
- Support the creation and ongoing maintenance of the Fire Protection Design Analysis Report (FPDAR) using recognized fire protection methodologies, analyses, and calculations.
- Assist with design activities, design reviews, installation, commissioning, code interpretations, and facility walkdowns to support project milestones.
- Apply fire safety principles independently in the development and upkeep of the FPDAR program.
- Provide support to Construction and Startup teams as needed.
- Interface with internal and external customers regarding the design, installation, and testing of passive and active fire protection systems.
- Perform reviews to ensure compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs), DoD orders, NFPA standards, UL and FM requirements.
- Assist with fire protection-related subcontracts, including document reviews and serving as the technical point of contact.
- 5–8 years of relevant professional experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of fire, life safety, and building codes, including NFPA, UL, and FM standards.
- Registered Fire Protection PE (must have passed the NCEES fire protection engineering exam).
- Ability to travel to project jobsites approximately one week per month.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Experience as a fire protection engineer in major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facilities, with strong fire suppression and fire alarm system design background.
- Experience working on DoD projects and with Unified Facilities Criteria.
- Experience using SpecsIntact for tailoring UFGS specifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or a related field).
