Senior Design Engineer

SUMMARY

The Senior Design Engineer works under the supervision of the Director of Engineering and is responsible for providing engineering and project management support to Platinum and its customers. Leads engineering efforts for Platinum’s technical products, striving for efficient product designs and high-quality builds. Ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to project plans in compliance with any relevant codes, regulations, specs, standards, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead design, production, and testing efforts for Platinum’s technical product offering.

- Leads product line sustainment efforts.

- Lead and support efforts to generate and maintain complete drawing and documentation packages through engineering change notices & design packages in adherence to company quality management system.

- Partner with Production and Quality Assurance to ensure builds meet design specifications and quality standards.

- Collaborate with and lead a multi-disciplinary team through all project phases, ensuring projects capture all necessary customer requirements, are completed on time, and within budget.

- Analyze customer specifications, operational requirements, application conditions, standards, and other documentation to determine product design requirements.

- Leads and participates in project meetings with customers providing updates on schedule, design, fabrication, and testing progress.

- Works with procurement and external vendors to ensure services and components sourced meet the expectations and requirements of the project.

- Collaborates with Engineering and Field Service teams to resolve operational issues, provide technical guidance, and identify possible design changes to increase product efficiency and reliability.

- Assist Engineering and Sales in gathering relevant design and production information for customer quote packages.

- As necessary, assist in creating and maintaining design and fabrication drawing packages, P&IDs, and various other project and equipment-specific documentation such as but not limited to cause/effect matrix, sequence of operations, control narrative, installation and operating manuals, etc.

- Review drawings for adherence to customer specifications and company drawing standards.

- Proactively responds and adapts in the work environment to meet the highest standards.

- Present self in a clean, neat, professional manner.

- Perform other miscellaneous duties assigned.

SKILLS

- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, prioritize tasks, and delegate when appropriate.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to conduct meetings and presentations.

- Sound understanding and experience with fabrication drawing packages, P&ID’s, electrical drawings, BOM management, design and revision packages.

- Experience and/or sound understanding of gas compression, fluid mechanics, piping design, instrumentation and control, electrical design, fabrication, welding, and manufacturing.

- Experience and/or knowledge of ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.

- Experience in producing drawings in accordance with ANSI Y14.5M and/or ISO specifications.

- Advanced knowledge of CAD and Autodesk software.

- Knowledge and experience utilizing a structured design process controlled through a quality management system such as ISO 9001, API Q1, etc.

- Must be able to work closely with and lead a team of designers.

- Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

- Must have strong mathematical skills, be detail-oriented, have the ability to multi-task, and be able to complete tasks quickly, efficiently, and accurately.

- Must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels in the organization.

- Must have strong problem-solving skills.

- Must exhibit a strong work ethic.

- Position-specific requirements: Sector: Oil & Gas, Chemical, and / or Manufacturing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Mechanical Engineering degree, or similarly related degree.

- Software exposure: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or CADWorx.

- Experience: 5+ years of engineering design and project management experience.

- Preferred experience: Natural gas compression, piping and vessel fabrication, oil/gas industry, general compression, methane capture.

- Certification: Licensed Professional Engineer (plus, not required).
