We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant who will play a pivotal role in supporting our manufacturing operations through detailed cost analysis, financial reporting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. This role is critical in driving inventory accuracy, optimizing cost systems, and ensuring financial compliance with GAAP standards. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and passionate about improving processes and making data-driven decisions that impact our business.
Candidates MUST be local to the Houston, TX area or be willing to relocate to Houston to be considered as this is a HYBRID ROLE.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead cost accounting functions including inventory valuation, standard cost maintenance, and variance analysis.
•Manage and execute physical inventory counts and daily cycle count analysis; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
•Calculate and maintain labor and overhead rates, and perform annual standard cost rollups.
•Reconcile WIP and inventory accounts monthly and ensure accuracy in product line costing.
•Review bills of materials and labor routings for costing accuracy.
•Assist in the monthly close process, preparing journal entries and detailed cost variance reports (e.g., manufacturing, PPV, obsolescence).
•Develop weekly reporting dashboards for inventory trends, production utilization, efficiency, and productivity metrics.
•Collaborate with Purchasing, Operations, and Sales & Marketing to understand product lines and cost drivers.
•Track and report capital project expenses and maintain compliance with ASC 842 lease accounting standards.
•Support the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process in collaboration with the Controller.
•Ensure ERP data integrity; contribute to the setup and maintenance of cost-related modules.
•Perform additional finance-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
•Minimum 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
•Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros).
•Strong understanding of ERP systems (EPICOR experience preferred).
•Solid grasp of GAAP, standard costing, and inventory reconciliation.
•Knowledge of bill of materials (BOM), labor routings, and WIP processes.
•Experience with capital project tracking and lease accounting (ASC 842).
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
•Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
•CPA certification (or progress toward CPA). Preferred
•Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma). Preferred
•Familiarity with ABC stratification and cost stratification models. Preferred
This is a HYBRID Position that will require the resource to be in office near Hobby Airport
Salary : $85,000 – $95,000 annually
