We are currently looking for a Senior Communications Advisor to join our busy Corporate Affairs team on a 12-month term contract, with a possibility of extension.

The role is externally focused, with an emphasis on writing (including mandatory disclosure reports, speeches, press releases, talking points and other long and short form content); proactive and reactive media relations including issues management; and helping build the company’s profile across the region and the country. A strong and prolific writer, you’ll work closely with the Director, Corporate Communications and other leaders and colleagues across the Emera group of companies, providing strategic communications counsel, developing written content aligned with Emera’s disclosure requirements and proactive thought leadership strategy, and overseeing the execution of related communications projects and initiatives.

Key elements of this role include::

- Primary writer for core company assets including mandatory disclosure projects (such as Annual Report, Management Information Circular, Sustainability Report), speeches, editorials and other proactive content projects.

- Build and execute external strategy to raise Emera’s profile with core constituency audiences including leveraging the CEO’s voice in external engagements and activities.

- Lead all aspects of media relations for Emera, both proactive and reactive. Establish relationships with key business and industry media, act as company spokesperson, prep and train company executives for public and media engagements.

- Manage third party vendors that support company disclosure projects and other public facing engagements including workback schedules, budgets and timelines.

- Serve as a senior communications professional by bringing the experience and presence required to lead projects, build and maintain key internal and external relationships, and manage multiple communications projects for the organization.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

- A degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism (or equivalent related experience) combined with a minimum of 7 years’ (corporate) communications experience, including at least 3 years of providing senior counsel and strategy development;

- You are a creative storyteller with excellent writing abilities.

- Strong project management experience, preferably gained in a complex corporate environment;

- Exceptional written and oral communication skills – the ability to develop a variety of written materials for a range of audiences under tight timelines is a must;

- A good collaborator and team player who excels at delivering results while considering the input and needs of multiple stakeholders, while effectively prioritizing and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment;

- Ability to translate complex organizational or industry initiatives into easy to understand, meaningful content that supports the broader business strategy;

- Proven leadership skills;

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as an understanding of social media and digital platforms is key

- Sound judgment in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential information is a must have.
