Job Summary
The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer designs, implements, and maintains business intelligence and reporting solutions across SAP and non-SAP environments, leveraging both legacy and modern cloud-based platforms. This role requires hands-on expertise in SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), SAP ABAP development, Power BI, and familiarity with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) and cloud integration. The ideal candidate will deliver custom reports, dashboards, and backend functionality, driving actionable insights through scalable, secure, and performance-optimized data solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, with a focus on operational excellence in industries such as energy or utilities.
Location / Travel Information
This position is based at the HQ office; some travel to off-site locations may be required. A valid, unexpired driver’s license is required at all times to perform job functions.
Duties/Responsibilities
•Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end BI solutions using Power BI, SAP Business Objects (BOBJ), SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), and ABAP, leveraging AI-driven insights and low-code/no-code features.
•Lead BI projects, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven insights.
•Build and optimize interactive dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and paginated reports in Power BI (using DAX, Power Query) and BOBJ (Web Intelligence, Crystal Reports, Universes), managing scheduling via BOBJ CMC and BI Launchpad.
•Develop and enhance SAP functionality using ABAP, including function modules, user exits, SAP Forms (Smart Forms, Adobe Forms), and ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
•Troubleshoot and debug ABAP programs and BI solutions to ensure system stability and resolve production issues.
•Integrate data across SAP ECC, S/4HANA, and non-SAP systems using ETL pipelines, OData services, Core Data Services (CDS), SQL Server tools, or cloud platforms (e.g., SAP BTP, Azure, AWS).
•Model data and design enterprise reporting structures for operational and financial metrics across SAP modules (e.g., FI, CO, SD, MM) and other data sources.
•Support SAP upgrades, enhancements, or landscape changes, ensuring BI continuity and compliance with data governance and security standards.
•Implement data governance best practices, including row-level security and compliance frameworks, to ensure reporting accuracy and security.
•Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and training to team members and business users.
Essential Functions
•Develop and maintain BI reports and dashboards using Power BI, SAP BOBJ, and SAP Analytics Cloud.
•Write, debug, and optimize ABAP code for SAP customizations and integrations.
•Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver actionable insights.
•Ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance in BI solutions.
•Leverage AI/ML and cloud platforms (e.g., SAP BTP, Azure) for advanced analytics.
Minimum Qualification/Work Experience
Years of experience
Minimum Required:
6+ years cumulative experience in Business Intelligence or related fields.
2+ years hands-on experience with Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service (or equivalent BI
tools like Tableau or SAP Analytics Cloud).
2+ years' experience developing SAP Business Objects reports and universes (or similar SAP reporting tools).
2+ years' experience in SAP ABAP development, including custom function modules and debugging.
Education, Certification
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
SAP certifications in ABAP, Business Objects, or Microsoft certifications in Power BI are a plus.
Certifications in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP Fiori, or cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, SAP BTP)
are a plus.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
•Proficient in SAP BOBJ tools: Web Intelligence, Crystal Reports, Universe Design Tool (UDT/IDT), CMC.
•Strong ABAP skills: creation of custom function modules, enhancements, data dictionary objects, and integration with SAP standard modules.
•Demonstrated experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including workspace management, dataflows, and row-level security.
•Solid knowledge of SQL and ETL processes.
•Working knowledge of SAP ECC and S/4HANA, especially financial and logistics modules (e.g., FI, CO, SD, MM).
•Experience with data governance, report lifecycle management, and compliance frameworks.
•Effective communication, technical writing, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
•Knowledge of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) or SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) is a plus.
•Prior experience in energy, utilities, or natural gas domains is a plus.
•Experience in plant-site operations and reporting is an advantage.

Operates in a professional office environment within or outside of an industrial plant environment.
Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and filing cabinets.
