The successful candidate will work as part of the Compensation team at the corporate head office in Calgary. The team is responsible for research, design, implementation, evaluation, modification, communication and execution of the compensation programs and related processes and systems in the countries in which TC Energy operates. The team also participates in, or manages special projects requiring interface with vendors, consultants, and company personnel at all levels.
The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Compensation in Calgary and will work closely with all members of the team.
- Conduct job benchmarking and market analysis to evaluate internal roles against external market data, ensuring alignment with compensation strategy. This includes reviewing job descriptions, identifying appropriate survey matches, analyzing compensation survey results, and providing recommendations to maintain internal equity
- Prepare complex compensation modeling, analyses and reports for senior leaders and stakeholders, including the Human Resources Committee (HRC) of the Board of Directors
- Provide support for the executive compensation cycle and annual proxy circular disclosure; including preparation of board materials and information requirements for committee meetings
- Build and maintain collaborative client relationships with other stakeholders in HR, including consulting on compensation philosophy, market information and other compensation issues
- Act as technical resource on TC Energy’s annual compensation programs to ensure adherence to compensation philosophy and principles, application of compensation rules and guidelines, alignment to market competitive practices and compliance with legislative requirements
- Actively participate in the annual compensation cycle, including, but not limited to; recommendation of annual budgets, preparing systems and processes for program rollout and communication; acting as point of contact for compensation system and program administration
- Represent TC Energy at industry meetings, solicit ad-hoc market information and consult with industry peers and vendors with respect to compensation practices; interpret and analyze market data and apply findings across the organization and the markets in which it operates
- Act as a project manager for medium to large compensation-related projects or cross-functional work streams
- Work collectively with other areas of HR to design and maintain governance related to compensation frameworks and industry best practices.- A relevant undergraduate degree with 10+ years of compensation or related HR experience in a large, complex, corporate environment
- In-depth knowledge of compensation principles and practices, including understanding of Canadian and U.S. compensation-related matters and regulations
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in broad based compensation administration
- Experience in executive compensation including exposure to Board and/or Committee materials, and proxy circular disclosure
- Experience administering long-term incentive compensation plans
- Advanced Excel and compensation database management skills
- An analytical mindset and ability to interpret data, recognize and communicate trends, and develop materials to present key findings
- Results-driven, detail-oriented, and a high level of accuracy is essential
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information in an appropriate manner
- Able to set priorities, multi-task, and allocate time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written, verbal communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Committed to taking initiative and being collaborative while contributing to and supporting TC Energy values in a team environment.
- Prior experience with Canadian and U.S. Energy, Power and Utility industry compensation practices.
