Shovel Leader will guide and work alongside a team of shovelers during snow events. This role is hands-on and requires performing snow removal tasks while also overseeing crew performance, ensuring quality standards, safety compliance, and timely completion of work. Hours will vary based on winter weather conditions, often requiring availability in the early morning, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.
- Lead a crew of snow shovelers during snow events, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress.
- Perform snow removal alongside the crew using shovels, snow blowers, and other equipment.
- Apply ice melt, salt, or sand to surfaces as required.
- Ensure work meets safety, quality, and timeliness standards.
- Communicate clearly with shovelers, equipment operators, and supervisors.
- Report site conditions, hazards, and completion status to Zone Manager
- Train and mentor new shovelers in safe and efficient practices. *; Maintain a positive and professional team environment.- Perform other duties related to snow removal as assigned.
- Proven reliability and availability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and unpredictable hours during snow events.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to direct and motivate a crew.
- Previous experience in snow removal, landscaping, or outdoor labor required, prior leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of snow removal tools and safe work practices.
- Ability to follow directions and enforce company policies.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and shovel snow for extended periods of time.
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50+ pounds independently.- Tolerance for working outdoors in extreme cold, snowy, and icy conditions for long hours.
- Ability to safely operate snow removal equipment (shovels, blowers, spreaders, etc.).
