Position Summary

The Petrochemical organization handles base and discretionary petrochemicals for MPC’s coast-to-coast refining network. These streams include all grades of propylene, benzene, toluene, xylenes, and cumene. The Petrochemical Scheduler has primary responsibilities to manage inventories, production, and logistics (including rail, truck, barge and pipeline) to meet forecasts and work with an array of internal organizations and external business partners to ensure uninterrupted refinery operations. The successful candidate should possess sound interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills as well as be organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a team environment. This position works closely with Trading, Refining, RVCO, Product Quality and T&L (Rail, Transport, and Marine) to ensure optimization of olefin and aromatic balances.

The open position manages the Midwest Nitration Grade Toluene scheduling desk, as well as supports other aromatics movements.


Key Responsibilities

Develops plans to manage inventory levels daily to ensure no refining operational rate reductions, no product downgrades due to scheduling, and no unplanned runouts. Nominates and schedules the pipeline, waterborne, truck, rail and/or delivery movements through use of propriety and third-party scheduling systems. Monitors inventories and shipping schedules daily to ensure that supply meets demand.

Communicates and verifies planned movements with all stakeholders, including but not limited to traders, optimizers, internal and external counterparties, customers, suppliers, producers, terminals, vessels, and pipelines.

Responds to unexpected events 24 hours/7 days a week making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply.

Initiates and coordinates movements independently through Marathon’s distribution channels based on a given plan. Identifies and communicates constraints and begins to identify optimization opportunities on their desk.

Optimize logistics, including rail car, barge, and truck fleet utilization and analyze equipment needs and seek optimal fleet sizes.

Develop improved scheduling methods designed to better utilize company or third-party facilities and equipment to minimize transportation costs and/or reduce risk.

Gains knowledge of the costs of transportation associated with the movements on their desk. Learns the regional supply picture. Work with business partners to negotiate equipment lease agreements and/or rate schedules to minimize primary transportation costs.

Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting for management review.


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required or five (5) years of related experience in lieu

Two (2) or more years of industry-related experience required
