Job Summary:
The Sandblasting Technician will prepare metal surfaces for painting, coating, or welding by removing rust, scale, old paint, and other materials using abrasive blasting equipment. This role is essential for ensuring high-quality finishes and long-lasting product performance.
Key Responsibilities:
•Operate sandblasting equipment safely and effectively
•Clean and prepare surfaces according to project specifications
•Mask and protect components not to be blasted
•Perform routine maintenance on blasting equipment
•Maintain a clean and organized work area
•Follow all safety protocols, including use of PPE
•Assist in other shop duties as required
Requirements:
•Prior experience in sandblasting, industrial coating, or surface preparation preferred
•Ability to wear and work in full protective gear (respirator, blast suit, etc.)
•Comfortable working in loud, dusty environments
•Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
•Physically fit – able to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods
•Willingness to cross-train or assist in other departments is a plus
Safety and Compliance:
•Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and respirators.
•Ensure work meets health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA standards, EPA guidelines).
•Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials like paint fumes, chemicals, or solvents.
Collaboration and Reporting:
•Coordinate with other team members, such as welders, pipefitters, or construction managers, to ensure work is completed according to project specifications and schedules.
•Report on progress, issues, and completion of assigned tasks to supervisors or project managers.
Qualifications:
•3+ years of previous experience in industrial or commercial sandblasting, especially related to pipes and equipment, is preferred.
•Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in various environmental conditions.
•Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices in industrial settings.
•Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
•Valid driver’s license required.
•Ability to operate a forklift.
