Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Safety Technician with to support the implementation and enforcement of workplace safety programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of MSHA standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing incidents, and promoting a culture of safety across all site operations.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Technician will be
responsiblefor the following:
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments across surface and/or underground mining operations
- Enforce compliance with MSHA and company-specific health and safety regulations
- Identify, report, and assist in correcting unsafe acts, conditions, and practices
- Support incident investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing personnel, and preparing detailed reports
- Maintain safety documentation, including training records, inspection checklists, and incident logs
- Deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks on relevant topics such as PPE, confined space entry, working at heights, and equipment operation
- Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and support response activities
- Collaborate with site supervisors and department heads to implement risk mitigation strategies
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Safety Technician or similar role within the mining industry
- Strong knowledge of MSHA.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a safety-related field preferred
- Ability to work in both mining and plant environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
- Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain

- Paid Time Off (PTO):
- 0-5 Years: 120 hours per year
