The Safety Specialist/Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing workplace safety programs while managing the maintenance operations of the facility. This hybrid role ensures compliance with safety regulations, minimizes risks, and maintains equipment reliability to support uninterrupted business operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in both safety management and maintenance leadership.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs that comply with OSHA. MSHA and applicable regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the facility.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; prepare corrective action plans.
- Coordinate safety training for employees, including onboarding, emergency response, PPE use, hazard communication, and equipment safety.
- Maintain safety documentation, reporting logs, SDS records, and regulatory compliance files.
- Monitor and enforce safe work practices, coach employees and supervisors on safety expectations.
- Manage workplace ergonomics assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, and safety improvement projects.
- Act as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies, insurance auditors, and safety consultants.
- Oversee daily maintenance operations, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Supervise external maintenance technicians and contractors, coordinate scheduling and workflow.
- Develop and manage a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment, tools, and building systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
- Maintain maintenance records, asset management data, spare parts inventory, and equipment manuals.
- Assist with planning facility upgrades, equipment installations, and capital improvement projects.
- Manage maintenance budgets, procurement, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure maintenance practices align with safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field (preferred).
- 3–7 years of experience in safety management, maintenance supervision, or a combined role.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and hazard mitigation.
- Knowledge of MSHA standards plus
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with ability to understand equipment systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of Avetta, ISN and Appruv compliance platforms a plus.- Safety leadership and compliance knowledge
