Job Summary
The Safety and Security Officer is responsible for providing plant protection for NLMK Indiana’s facility. The officer will direct all incoming traffic and monitor the facility to ensure compliance with plant safety rules as needed. This position is also responsible for assisting employees and visitors, especially in times of emergency.
Role and Responsibilities
•Responds to calls for emergency medical and first response needs for the entire plant.
•Ensure the safety and security of employees, visitors, and the facility.
•Oversee all activities at the guard posts.
•Monitors and authorizes entrance and departures of employees, visitors and vendors to assure that only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the premises.
•Identify measures to prevent theft of company property.
•Calls police or fire department in cases of emergency. Directs emergency personnel once they arrive to the proper location.
•Patrols premises and circulates among employees in the plant to promote safety and perform routine inspections.
•Collaborates with team to consider objectives when identifying corrective actions.
•Updates safety and security reports of daily activity.
•Communicates important information with relief at shift change.
•Directs all incoming traffic.
•Performs drug and alcohol screens as needed.
•Use and knowledge of multi-channel radio, air/gas monitors, hydrants, sprinkler systems, alarms, perimeter controls.
•Must be able to handle high stress situations and be available work rotating shifts.
•Monitor compliance to vehicular traffic requirements and rules.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
•Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) required.
•High School Diploma or GED, a college degree is a plus.
•Must be able to wear required safety equipment when necessary.
