About This Job

About Nwestco

Nwestco is a leading service and construction provider for fueling and car wash systems across the western U.S. With a strong emphasis on operational safety, regulatory compliance, and fleet performance, we are looking for a knowledgeable and hands-on Safety and Compliance Officer to lead these efforts company-wide—with a specific focus on California’s unique regulatory environment.

About the Role

As our new Safety and Compliance Officer, you’ll take full ownership of Nwestco’s safety, compliance, and fleet programs. You’ll be responsible for implementing and managing systems that keep our employees safe, our fleet compliant, and our operations aligned with federal and California-specific regulations. You’ll also inherit the responsibilities previously held by two team members, supported during your transition by one of them in a part-time advisory capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Management

Maintain and improve company-wide safety programs, including California’s IIPP
Conduct audits, inspections, and site-specific hazard assessments
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, Cal/OSHA, CARB, CDFA, and hazardous material handling/reporting
Develop safety plans for construction, service, and shop work across multiple branches
Respond to incidents and oversee investigations, reporting, and corrective actions

Training & Culture

Coordinate monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks
Coordinate with Branch Managers and their teams on safety-related issues
Deliver field-specific safety training using online platforms like Mastery.com
Track and manage safety certifications, annual physicals, and refresher courses (e.g., HAZWOPER)
Promote an engaged, accountable safety culture across all teams

Fleet Compliance & Oversight

Oversee vehicle maintenance tracking and inspection scheduling
Maintain fleet documentation and driver records using systems such as Fleetio and Samsara
Manage annual filings including UCR, heavy vehicle use tax, T-1 permits, and CARB off-road equipment reporting

Documentation & Regulatory Reporting

Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required compliance reporting
Track personnel certs, vehicle PM intervals, and operational permits
Support internal record keeping including document retention and archive disposal
Interface with regulatory agencies when needed

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in safety and compliance management (preferably in construction or industrial services)
In-depth knowledge of California-specific regulatory requirements
Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, CARB, and hazardous materials standards
Proficient with fleet/safety software (Samsara, Fleetio, Mastery.com or similar)
Ability to travel regularly between multiple branches in California
Strong organizational and communication skills
Forklift or warehouse equipment operation experience is a plus

Before You Leap:

Some positions require travel and overnight stays. Travel expenses will be covered by Nwestco, LLC

All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of the following:

Ability to pass pre-employment drug-screening and background check.
Ability to pass pre-employment physical with extensive lifting (up to 75 lb), twisting, pulling, kneeling, and squatting.
A valid driver's license with a clean driving record over the past 5 years required.
IMPORTANT: For positions classified as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to pass a comprehensive drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana, as a condition of employment. While marijuana use may be legal in some states where Nwestco operates, it is important to note that federal regulations and company policies mandate drug testing for all safety-sensitive roles, including those governed by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Applicants for these positions must successfully meet these requirements to be eligible for employment.
