General Description:

The Pipeline Safety Department, in the Oversight and Safety Division of the Railroad Commission of Texas, has direct oversight of approximately 224,067 miles of intrastate pipeline. Pipeline Safety seeks a field inspector to perform technical fieldwork related to pipeline safety operations in the Region 6, North Central Texas. Work involves conducting pipeline safety evaluations as well as incident and accident investigations. The inspector determines pipeline operators’ compliance with applicable natural gas and hazardous liquids pipeline safety rules and regulations (49 Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 192 and 195; 16 Texas Administrative Code, Chapters 8 and 18. This position offers the opportunity to learn Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) standards at out-of-state training facilities and to work with industry professionals to ensure safe operation standards, as well as staying informed of new compliance regulations and industry practices. Inspectors perform site visits and provide current information on PHMSA and Railroad Commission regulations to ensure pipeline operations meet safety requirements and regulations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Regional Manager and the PHMSA Program Director.

Work Hours: Standard office hours for Commission employees are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our agency offers alternate schedules for employees, as long as it does not adversely affect operations and service levels, and standard hours of operation are maintained.
