Job Title: Regulatory Analyst
Location: Fergus Falls, MN (Hybrid work options available)
Company: Otter Tail Power Company
About the Role
Are you someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving complex problems, and making sense of financial data? We’re looking for a Regulatory Analyst to join our team and help us make sure our utility rates are fair, accurate, and well-supported.
In this role, you’ll work behind the scenes to analyze costs, support rate filings, and help us meet state regulatory requirements. You’ll collaborate with teams across the company and play a key part in shaping how we serve our customers and communities.
What You’ll Do
•Build and maintain financial models that help determine how much it costs to provide electricity in different areas.
•Analyze data to figure out how much money the company needs to operate and invest in the future.
•Use specialized software to create reports and forecasts that support our rate filings.
•Help prepare documents and presentations for state regulators, including written and spoken testimony.
•Keep an eye on what other utilities and state commissions are doing that might affect our business.
•Work with legal and finance teams to prepare official filings and respond to questions from regulators.
•Conduct studies that help us understand how money flows through the business and how to fairly allocate costs.
•Support projects related to transmission rates and regional energy planning.
•Respond to requests for financial and regulatory information from other departments or outside agencies.
What We’re Looking For
•A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Understanding of how utility companies manage money and plan for the future is preferred.
•Familiarity with accounting rules and how they apply to both regulated and non-regulated businesses.
•Great communication skills—both written and verbal.
•Ability to work well with others and manage multiple projects at once.
•Experience with regulatory processes or utility rate cases is a plus, but not required.
