Recycled Metals/ Facility Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scrap Yard Manager to oversee all aspects of our scrap metal recycling facility in Albuquerque, NM. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong background in operations management, safety compliance, and team leadership within the scrap metal or a related industrial industry. The Scrap Yard Manager will be responsible for the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of the yard, ensuring production goals are met, and maintaining a high standard of quality control and customer service.

General Duties & Responsibilities but not limited to:

Operations Management:

- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the scrap yard, including receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

- Direct the workflow to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency of all yard activities.

- Operate and oversee the use of heavy equipment, including shears, balers, loaders, forklifts, and cranes.

- Schedule and manage preventive maintenance and repairs for all machinery and equipment to minimize downtime.

- Implement and optimize operational policies and procedures to improve workflow and efficiency.

Team Leadership & Development:

- Lead, train, and manage a team of yard personnel, including equipment operators, sorters, and general laborers.

- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement.

- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and handle disciplinary actions as needed.

- Manage employee scheduling, approve timecards, and coordinate staffing levels to meet operational demands.

Safety & Environmental Compliance:

- Champion a culture of safety by enforcing all company safety policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).

- Conduct regular safety meetings, site inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

- Ensure all employees are properly trained on safety protocols and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

- Maintain all required environmental permits and ensure the yard operates in full compliance with environmental laws.

Inventory & Quality Control:

- Manage and maintain accurate inventory records of all incoming and outgoing materials.

- Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure proper identification and grading of scrap metal.

- Work closely with the commercial team to monitor commodity markets and optimize material purchasing and sales.

- Minimize material degradation and loss through proper handling and storage techniques.

Financial & Administrative Duties:

- Assist in developing and managing the yard's operating budget.

- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production volume, recovery rates, and operating costs.

- Approve purchases of supplies, equipment, and services necessary for yard operations.

- Maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and transportation partners.

Qualifications & Competencies

●Required:

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent./ Associates is preferred but not required

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the scrap metal recycling industry or a related heavy industrial environment (e.g., manufacturing, construction, waste management).

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.

- Proven experience operating heavy machinery such as loaders, forklifts, and material handlers.

- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metal identification and grading.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, email)
