Perform various inspection and test operations on in process and finished materials to ensure that products are within customer and/or pre-established specifications. Perform laboratory testing functions as required by customer or operational specifications. Follows defined inspection and testing procedures, interprets results and reacts accordingly.
Maintain records and charts of inspected materials and report deficiencies to supervisor or other lead personnel.
1. Receives oral and/or written instructions from Quality Manager. Works under general supervision to carry out duties. May direct efforts of entry level personnel as required by manager. Interprets material and testing specification requirements as they apply to inspected material.
2. Perform operations in a safe and efficient manner and maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment in accordance with standard practice.
3. Provides process quality control (visual inspection and/or use of handheld instruments to determine tolerances, smoothness of finished materials, etc.) and communicates results as required.
4. Move materials as needed using cranes, hand trucks, forklifts, etc.
5. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment as needed. Assists other personnel with non- routine maintenance.
6. Sets up and operates various inspection and test equipment such as hardness testers, tensile testers, microscopes, conductivity meters, gauge equipment, etc. Prepares samples and inspects products for proper identification and conformance to applicable specifications, i.e. surface, grain structure, gauge, mechanical/physical properties and tolerance imperfections.
7. Performs visual inspections of materials or utilizes various types of inspection and measurement tools to determine if product is within tolerance, finished properly, etc.
8. Safely uses and handles hazardous materials such as concentrated acids, oxidizers, alkalais, organic volatiles, etc.
9. Perform process conformance testing of material solutions, agents, chemicals, etc. for specific analysis procedures.
10. Completes inspection report forms and maintains inspection results records/charts. Identifies potentially acceptable nonconforming product, communicates in variance in detail to sales for customer acceptance. Documents release of material accepted by waiver and/or deviation.
11. Ability to perform calibrations on handheld measuring devices.
13. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager.
· 2-3 years previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, specifications and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Strong hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity; prior manufacturing experience highly desirable; ability to effectively communicate within a team environment; willingness and ability to cross train and effectively perform multiple functions within production manufacturing environment.
Must pass special NDT training and examination in order to be certified as required to accept and certify material
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May be required to wear respirator while performing duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
