: RED-Rochester’s (RED) Project Coordinator provides cost estimation & construction support for capital projects contributing to the operation, maintenance and improvement of RED’s industrial utility assets at Eastman Business Park in Rochester, NY. The utility assets include buildings, steam & gas-turbine power generation, steam generation and distribution, refrigeration, compressed air, and water/wastewater treatment systems. As an essential member of the Projects & Asset Optimization team, the Project Coordinator will support the development and delivery of small to large capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning. In this role they will be responsible for estimating and planning construction projects; and overseeing site safety and progress from start to finish in a timely and cost-effective manner. Key responsibilities include budgeting, organization, implementation, scheduling, and coordination of the projects. They will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution in alignment with the established timeline, budget and safety standards.
- Work with RED’s P&AO team to develop and deliver capital improvement projects for our equipment, processes, buildings and structures across all RED’s utility assets, including new utility service extensions to EBP customers.
- Reviews projects for constructability. Proactively identifies and mitigates issues and risks.
- Identifies and coordinates needs for additional project services such as environmental testing and abatement, permitting, waste management and recycling, cranes, scaffolding, construction and building inspections, surveys, testing and balancing, safety inspections, etc.
- Develops detailed project cost estimates utilizing vendors, contractors, industry knowledge and best practices. Assigns reasonable contingencies per project stage and level of development.
- Assists with preparation of RFP’s for project construction bids and equipment procurement.
- Ability to evaluate construction design information such as detail and assembly drawings, system layouts and sketches, or specifications.
- Responsible for overseeing day-to-day jobsite activities that includes coordinating and managing multiple contractors and trades.
- Conduct jobsite observations and field inspections of RED’s buildings, utilities generation and utilities distribution systems during construction.
- Identifies job hazards and ensures adherence to site safety, OSHA and RED EHS protocols.
- Manage logistics for delivery and offload of project materials and equipment to the job site.
- Coordinates LO/TO requests and system shutdowns with RED’s O&M teams.
- Directs startup and commissioning activities. Facilitates final hand-off of affected assets to RED’s O&M teams at project completion.
- Works independently on assignments with guidance from senior team members and managers.
- Prepare capital requests, construction reports and other technical documentation as needed.
- Overall Project Management of small capital projects. Includes development, design, construction and commissioning. Manages schedule and budget, ensures conformance to federal and state laws, and adherence to approved specifications.
- Establish working relationships with outside engineering firms, contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Associate’s or BS Degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or related field; or trade school completion
- Functional knowledge, experience or a strong desire to learn about steam power generation, gas turbine power generation, boilers, industrial refrigeration, compressed air, pumping, hydronics and water treatment systems.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in cost estimation, construction management or a related field.
- Professional Cost Estimator/Analyst, preferred by not required.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM), preferred by not required.
- OSHA 30 Certificate
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; including Excel, Teams and Project.
- Use of Bluebeam Revu, Maximo and Navisworks
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. Able to write reports and procedures.
- Ability to effectively lead meetings, present information and respond to questions from senior management, customers, contractors, vendors, service providers, and O&M personnel.
- Desire for hands-on project development and direct contact with project stakeholders.
- Ability to plan and see the “big picture”. Must be a “results-driven, self-starter” with the desire to bring creative solutions to a dynamic operating environment.

- Possesses an understanding of all facets of the construction process. Strong knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards

- Able to adjust easily to rapid change, possess a strong sense of urgency and is able to work well under pressure.
- A combination of normal office, indoor and outdoor jobsites, power generation and industrial park conditions. Weather consistent with historical seasonal changes in Rochester, NY.
- Potential to work outside in all weather conditions from street level to roof tops.
- Possibility of temperatures ranging from extreme cold to over 100 degrees.
- Must work at times in dirty or noisy areas.
- Able to operate computer keyboard, printers, copier, etc.

- Able to move between buildings in Eastman Business Park which may require climbing as much as thirteen flights of stairs from time-to-time
- Able to maneuver throughout both indoor and outdoor construction sites; including bending, kneeling and climbing a ladder.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to use a personal car to travel about Eastman Business Park which covers approximately 5 square miles.
