The Project Controls Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of project controls processes across engineering and construction capital projects. This role integrates cost and schedule functions, provides quality assurance on project controls deliverables, and ensures stakeholders are equipped with accurate and timely project information. Assigned projects may range in complexity, including high-value, multi-year capital programs within the energy, pipeline, and infrastructure sectors.
- Lead and coordinate the development and maintenance of project controls cost deliverables in line with established practices and policies.
- Establish and maintain project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to support execution, cost control, and reporting requirements.
- Collect inputs for project cost estimates, establish control budgets, and conduct ongoing monitoring of incurred costs, commitments, variances, forecasts, and earned value analysis.
- Prepare and deliver accurate cost, schedule, and variance reports, including cash flow analysis, contingency logs, and monthly project status updates for senior stakeholders.
- Interface with contractors and field teams to support cost tracking, labor/equipment/materials (LEM) systems, and data integrity.
- Work closely with schedulers and field cost analysts to ensure alignment between schedule, cost, and progress reporting.
- Support project scope management by analyzing scope definition, change control, and financial health of projects.
- Develop expenditure profiles, workforce histograms, capital cost comparisons, and program-level forecasts.
- Track and analyze project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing recommendations for performance improvement.
- Participate in project team and stakeholder meetings to monitor scope, cost, and schedule changes and address risks proactively.
- Provide insights and recommendations for process improvement within project cost management and controls practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent post-secondary education may be considered.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in project controls, cost management, or project management for large capital projects (pipeline, midstream, or infrastructure preferred).
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, advanced formulas, data visualization) and working knowledge of Power BI/Power Pivot.
- Experience with enterprise systems such as SAP/Oracle and project controls software (EcoSys strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM), cost forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ability to synthesize and communicate large, complex datasets into clear analysis and recommendations.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented work style.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license may be required for field-based support.
