DeepOcean has an exciting opportunity for a Project Controller/Scheduler to join our team on a full-time basis located in Houston, TX.
The Project Controller plays a critical role in the successful delivery of complex subsea projects by managing and tracking project costs, budgets, revenue, schedules, and key performance indicators (KPIs). This position partners closely with Project Managers, Operations, Finance, and Executive Leadership to provide accurate, timely, and actionable reporting that drives informed decision-making across the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented finance and controls professional with a strong background in project scheduling, cost control, and earned value management within the offshore energy, marine, oil and gas, or subsea services industry.
DEMONSTRABLE EXPERIENCE SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE
Cost & Budget Management
Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project budgets in alignment with contract scope, estimates, and awarded values.
Track and analyze actual project costs against budget, identifying variances and forecasting cost at completion (EAC/ETC).
Review and validate purchase orders, invoices, timesheets, and vendor charges to ensure accurate cost allocation to projects and work breakdown structures (WBS).
Implement and enforce change management procedures, ensuring all scope variations are properly documented, priced, and reflected in project forecasts.
Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management at the project level.
Revenue & Financial Control
Track project revenue recognition in accordance with contract terms, percentage-of-completion methodology, and applicable accounting standards.
Prepare and review client invoicing in coordination with Project Managers and Finance, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
Monitor accounts receivable aging on assigned projects and support collection efforts where required.
Reconcile project financial data between operational systems and the general ledger.
Support revenue and margin analysis, including identification of risks and opportunities.
Scheduling & Planning
Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6, including baselines, progress updates, and recovery plans.
Integrate cost and schedule data to support earned value management (EVM), including schedule performance index (SPI), cost performance index (CPI), and variance analysis.
Perform critical path analysis and identify schedule risks, advising Project Managers on mitigation strategies.
Support resource loading, manpower planning, and vessel utilization forecasting in coordination with Operations.
Ensure schedule alignment between client deliverables, subcontractor activities, and internal execution teams.
KPIs & Monthly Reporting
Define, track, and report on project and portfolio KPIs including revenue, margin, cost performance, schedule performance, utilization, and productivity.
Prepare monthly project review reports for internal leadership and, where applicable, external client stakeholders.
Contribute to month-end close activities including accruals, work-in-progress (WIP) reviews, and variance commentary.
Develop dashboards and visualizations that clearly communicate project health and financial performance.
Participate in monthly Project Review Meetings, presenting cost, schedule, and forecast data to management.
Risk, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Identify and report project financial risks and opportunities, supporting development of mitigation plans.
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, company policies, contract requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Support internal and external audits with accurate project documentation and records.
Contribute to continuous improvement of project controls processes, tools, templates, and reporting standards.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project controls, cost control, or project accounting, preferably within subsea services, offshore energy, oil and gas, marine construction, or EPC environments.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets, costs, revenue, and forecasts on complex, multi-million-dollar projects.
Prior experience supporting month-end close, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
Scheduling Expertise (Required)
Strong, demonstrable background in project scheduling, including development of baselines, progress measurement, and critical path analysis.
Proficiency in industry-standard scheduling software is required, with preference for Microsoft Project and/or Oracle Primavera P6.
Working knowledge of earned value management (EVM) principles and schedule/cost integration.
Experience building and maintaining integrated cost and schedule reports (time-phased budgets, S-curves, progress dashboards).
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, data modeling, Power Query).
Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) as applied to project cost and revenue tracking.
Familiarity with reporting and BI tools such as Power BI is a strong plus.
Solid understanding of project accounting principles, contract structures (lump sum, day rate, reimbursable, T&M), and revenue recognition standards (ASC 606).

Preferred Qualifications
Professional certification such as PMI-SP (Scheduling Professional), PMP, AACE (CCP/PSP/EVP), or equivalent.
Experience with IFS or similar ERP platforms used in offshore/subsea operations.
Prior exposure to vessel-based operations, ROV/IMR, survey, or offshore wind/renewables projects.
Experience working in an international, matrixed organization.
