San José Clean Energy, or SJCE, is San José’s local, not-for-profit electricity supplier operated by the City of San José’s Energy Department. Position Duties

The Energy department is seeking to fill one (1) Part-Time Graduate Student Intern position to support the Customer Programs Team.

The ideal candidate is a skilled and highly motivated individual, with creative problem-solving skills, the ability to learn quickly, and the desire to work both independently and collaboratively. Good judgment, initiative, and cooperation with other staff and outside stakeholders are assets to this position. Under general direction of the Manager of Distributed Energy Programs, this position will be responsible for supporting customer programs operations and reporting.

Typical duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

- Program and Customer Analysis/Reports

- Analyze data from existing programs and pilot programs to evaluate effectiveness and prepare reports.

- Propose and design new analyses to gain new insights into program operations and develop strategies to increase program participation.

- Review, track, and QC applications and incentive payouts. Coordinate with billing services provider to issue payouts for program participation.

- Audit consultant interactions with customers/applicants to ensure rapid response times and satisfactory customer service.

- Monitor budgets, log invoices, analyze burn rates, and estimate upcoming costs for program tracking.

- CRM Upkeep:

- Monitor data dashboards on CRM to closely track program performance metrics.

- Compile program portfolio reports on a regular basis and circulate to team, highlighting recent trends and changes.

- Data upkeep and reporting

- Routinely upload programs data files and troubleshoot as needed.

- Monitor and edit Power BI Dashboards from data available in the database to find new trends in programs data.

- Update dashboards and slides for routine presentations of program performance and impacts.

- Customer Service and Engagement

- Work with marketing and programs equity lead to design customer feedback campaigns and analyze feedback to recommend program changes and improvements.

- Represent the programs team at community events and be familiar with program offerings to walk interested residents and businesses through the benefits and application processes of customer programs.

Pay: Graduate Student Intern: $20.52-$30.30 per hour (unclassified, unbenefited)

This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The actual salary will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Work Schedule: During the academic year, interns are recommended to work 24-40 hours per week, with schedules determined collaboratively between the hiring manager and the intern based on student availability and project needs. During summer and winter breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week.


Minimum Qualifications


Training and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's Degree and current

enrollment in a Masters degree program from an accredited college or university in business or public administration

or closely related field.


Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the state of California may be

required in performing job duties.


Desired skills:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, Power Point

- Experience with Power BI, SQL, and Python

- Experience working with large data sets and conducting analysis to provide recommendations to staff and stakeholders

- Relevant coursework or training in sustainability, environmental studies, or energy programs. Experience working in the public sector is a good substitute.
