Principal Platform Engineering Manager

Summary/Objective

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Principal Platform Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing our platform infrastructure with a focus on DevOps practices and Azure-based cloud architecture. Essential Functions

- Platform Architecture and Design: Lead the design and architecture of cloud-native platforms in Azure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.

- DevOps Leadership: Champion DevOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, IaC, automation, and monitoring.

- Innovation and Enterprise Capabilities: Develop shared services, tools, and frameworks (container orchestration, serverless computing, microservices).

- Cloud Optimization in Azure: Oversee migration, optimization, and management of applications in Azure using AKS, Azure Functions, and Azure Monitor.

- Mentorship and Collaboration: Mentor engineers, foster learning, and partner with development, operations, and security teams.

- Performance and Reliability: Monitor platform health, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive resilience measures.

- Strategic Planning: Contribute to long-term platform strategy, integrating emerging technologies.

Management Responsibility

This position will directly oversee platform engineers and other technical team members, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salaried position. Hours will vary based on team needs, project deadlines, and client expectations.

Travel

Minimal travel expected (<10%), primarily for team collaboration and training.

Required Education and Experience

bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

15+ years of experience in platform engineering, with at least 10 years in a senior or lead role.

Proven track record in DevOps and cloud architecture, specifically in Azure environments.

Technical Expertise:

- DevOps tools and practices (Bicep, Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

- Application architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven systems).

- Azure services (Azure VMs, App Services, SQL Database, Networking).

- Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

- Monitoring and logging (Prometheus, ELK Stack, Azure Application Insights).

- Education

- Years of Experience in area of specialty or expertise

- If applicable, certification or credentials
