The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Pit Utility at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7/7, 12-hour shift, Day shift / Night shift schedule.

Position Pit Utility Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Pit Utility team member is responsible for the management and support of high-voltage power cables and related equipment in the active mine area.

Responsibilities

- Conduct all work in a safety conscious and detail-oriented manner,

- Plan and coordinate optimal cable layout for shovel dig heading and drill patterns in conjunction with Mine Operations Supervisors,

- Safe execution of shovel and drill moves on site while adhering to SOP’s and best practices,

- Maintain pit cable standards ensuring tidy layout, adequate markup with stands, crossover placement, and pole arch setup,

- Maintain inventory and communicate maintenance requirements on cable/dewatering supplies and related items,

- Operate cable reeler and other required equipment to achieve job tasks,

- Maintain cleanliness on equipment related to the Pit Utility role,

- Assists Pit Labourer role with tasks including the supply and removal of water/consumables to drill fleet, assist in bit/steel changes, pit signage, pit cleanliness on an as required basis,

- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Pit Utility role as required or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),

- Previous manual labor work or service experience is considered an asset,

- Previous experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset,

- Previous experience handling high-voltage power cables and operation of pumping systems is considered an asset,

- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,

- Ability to get trained on various equipment, learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity, and reliability,

- Possess a solid mechanical ability/aptitude,

- Self-motivated and able to work alone or with minimal supervision,

Working Conditions

- Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,

- Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,

- Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds.

Rate of Pay

$42.25 / hr.
