) Leadman is part of a crew, and occasionally supervises crew members, that field erect, fit, weld, grind, and inspect new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures and that make repairs to existing steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures. This position is skilled craft role that occasionally has Supervisor responsibilities. The role directly reports to the Superintendent and routinely interacts with Erection Crews and Supervisors.
- Willing and able to travel for work in forty-eight contiguous states. Has reliable transportation.
- Assists Superintendent or Foreman with supervising activities for a crew at one work location.
- Assists in development of look ahead scheduling and progress reporting.
- Occasionally supervises crew to ensure compliance with project directives.
- Ensure crew performs work in compliance with drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Monitor craft compliance with project safety process requirements, document and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
- Perform all work in accordance with approved for construction drawings and procedures furnished by the PMT.
- Ensure all Company processes, policies, and procedures are followed onsite.
- Ensure maintenance & upkeep of equipment at site.
o Train welders in SMAW, FCAW, SAW, EGW, GTAW.
- Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Unload fabricated steel products and tools from trucks or rail cars.
- Operate electric and pneumatic power tools such as grinders, wire brushes, and chipping guns. Perform basic and preventative maintenance functions on power equipment.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, brooms, scrapers, hand brushes, files etc.
- Hook-on or move material around the field site by hand or with the assistance of a forklift or crane.
- Align, fit, and tack steel shapes together utilizing temporary erection gear, fit up (pry) bars, and sledgehammers.
- Erect and dismantle temporary scaffolding used in steel plate construction.
- Set up, break down, and rig lifting equipment such as mobile cranes and fixed derricks.
- Set-up and use oxy-fuel or plasma burning equipment to cut or trim plate and structural steel.
- Perform welding operations to join the steel parts together in accordance with approved for construction welding procedures using SMAW, FCAW, SAW, and other processes.
- Inspect, set up, use, break down, and rig equipment such as aerial work platforms (spider buggies), elevated work platforms, and staging.
- Lay out and install tank accessories according to drawings and procedures.
- Read, understand, and communicate tasks to be completed based on engineering drawings.
- Ensure all cargo are secured properly and communicated with drivers.
- Ability to perform construction activities by hand or with the assistance of normal steel construction equipment.
- Ability to use the tools and equipment listed.
o Understanding of work scope, work hour & PF, plan for the project.
o Able to fluently read, write, and speak English. Spanish is also beneficial.
o Excellent Internal Communication skills (HSE, QC, Management, HR etc.).
o Ability to communicate directions effectively verbally from supervisors and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers.
- Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
§ Work with PMT to understand load type, offloading/loading plan, area compaction, and main steel spacing plan for proper preservation.
§ Able to conduct periodic inspections of rigging gears and maintain records.
o Tank Bottom/Lapped Plate – layout and fit.
o Access elevated work platforms and scaffolds using ladders, stairways, or other designated access ways.
o Climb structures utilizing appropriate fall protection and available handholds and footholds.
o Work with precise limits or standards of accuracy.
o Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects.
o Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
o Comply with all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures.
o Work in confined spaces where respirators and fresh air equipment are utilized.
o Practice good housekeeping to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
o Perform a variety of duties, which may often change.
- Typically, 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Weld Qualification/Certification in multiple processes (FCAW, SMAW, SAW, etc.)
- English is required, Spanish is beneficial
