The purpose of a permit specialist is to evaluate and process applications for permits and licenses in order to facilitate compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves researching and verifying the accuracy of required documents, researching applicable laws and regulations and direction regarding permit requirements. The permit specialist also coordinates with other departments to ensure all necessary paperwork and information is gathered and processed in a timely manner.
- Excellent knowledge of federal, state, and local permits
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blue prints, and schematics
- Proficiency in microsoft office suite and other related software programs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem - solving and critical thinking skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to change priorities and deadlines
- Ability to interact with the public, staff, customers, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism
- Other duties may be assigned
- Responsible for answering heavy call volume for the programs
- Calculates, communicates, collects, processes, and documents all related department fees including
- 1 year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in business administration public administration
- Must be computer literate, effectively utilizing standard and specialized office software and systems in the performance of duties
A permit specialist's job is to process applications for building permits or construction projects.
Be able to give applicants the correct information in case they have questions.
