The Opportunity:

Job Title: Payroll Associate (9-Month Fixed Term Contract) Company, Department: Emera Inc, Corporate Finance Location: Halifax, NS - Hybrid

At Emera, you will be part of an inclusive, respectful workplace where everyone is welcomed and supported. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, we are currently looking to hire a Payroll Associate on a term contract, for a minimum of nine (9) months with the opportunity to be extended.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team environment. You will join our payroll team that is made up of an energetic and positive group of professionals, providing opportunity to learn from and be supported by a wider group. They are active in the National Payroll Association and continuously stay up to date on industry developments, helping us to continuously improve processes.

Key Responsibilities will include:

•

Preparing and processing bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly payrolls in accordance with company policies, collective agreements, and legislative/regulatory requirements;

•

Completing Records of Employment (ROEs), employment verifications, and responding to both internal and external stakeholder inquiries regarding payroll.

•

Assisting in processing year-end transactions, balancing, reporting, adjustments, and remitting T4’s;

•

Participate in payroll related projects;

•

Lead certain continuous improvement initiatives;

•

Maintain detailed records for audit purposes;

•

Be responsible for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) program; and

•

Assisting ad hoc reporting, request, projects, and processes as required.

What skills will make you successful?

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

•

Previous work experience processing full cycle payrolls would be considered an asset;

•

Provide a high level of customer service and have excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills;

•

High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing obligations;

•

Proven problem-solving skills;

•

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel;

•

Experience with PeopleSoft payroll software would be considered an asset.
