Outside Sales Representative – Metals Division (Minneapolis)

Owen Industries, one of the Midwest’s largest and most respected steel service centers, is seeking an experienced Outside Sales Representative to join our team. The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing, managing, and growing sales within an assigned territory. This role focuses on building new business, strengthening existing customer relationships, and providing solutions that add real value to our customers' operations. You’ll work closely with management, production, and office teams to support quoting, order processing, customer programs, and market intelligence.
- Manage, develop, and maintain sales for Service Center, Tool Steel, and Manufacturing products.
- Participate in strategic planning and sales forecasting for your territory.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to support production scheduling and delivery timelines.
- Develop strong relationships with customers and maintain customer-specific programs.
- Prepare and process quotations, sales orders, and handle non-conformance issues.
- Provide accurate pricing, product availability, and follow up on outstanding quotes.
- Maintain strong market awareness, including pricing and competitive activity.
- Attend training programs, sales seminars, and team meetings.
- Support company Quality Policies and Quality Systems.- 5+ years of sales experience, ideally within steel service centers, manufacturing, or industrial metals.
- A strong book of business or mature customer relationships within the steel industry.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- A track record of exceeding sales, margin, and business development goals.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and customer relationship skills.
- Technically minded, able to understand customer operations and provide value-based solutions.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and professional.
- Strong organizational, forecasting, and multitasking abilities.
- Solid computer and telephone skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift items over 20 lbs.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, and varying noise levels in production areas.
- Office environment is quiet; facility is not fully climate controlled.
