The OSP Broadband Planner is responsible for designing and mapping outside plant (OSP) fiber optic cable systems, focusing primarily on FTTH networks. The role involves understanding optical network elements, including hubs, cabinets (active/passive), and splitter/tap architectures. Responsibilities include fiber allocation, route planning, terrain analysis, material cost estimation, work order creation, inventory checks, and coordination with GIS, inventory, and construction teams. Designs are reviewed and approved by the OSP Manager. Must ensure timely support for construction schedules.
· Perform all responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
· Design, plan, and draft OSP fiber optic networks using Visio, mapping, or design platforms.
· Collaborate with route engineers to determine optimal plant paths.
· Coordinate projects and interact with in-house and contractor design/build teams.
· Support project timelines, budgets, and reporting metrics.
· Ensure system security by following company procedures.
· Complete tasks to Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative’s quality standards.
· Represent the organization professionally in all interactions.
· Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times.
· Perform plant serviceability surveys and cost estimates.
· Maintain and update network documentation for construction teams.
· Understand and utilize time-domain reflectometers and OTDRs.
· Plan and prepare drawings for new construction or modifications to aerial/underground fiber networks.
· Interpret complex project plans to determine project scope.
· Research and apply new technologies and fiber products.
· Review final test results for construction and electronic projects.
· Travel as required to project sites and support locations.
· If elected, may serve on Employee Action Committee to assist in enhancing employee-management relations and developing cooperative policies.
· Assist with annual membership meeting preparation and participation.
· Preforms all other related duties as assigned by management
· Ability to travel as necessary to assigned locations
Supervision Received: Reports to the Manager OSP Engineering.
Associate degree in Civil or Optical Engineering, Telecommunications, IT, or equivalent work experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must possess knowledge of electronics and fiber optic network operations. Two to four years of experience preferred.
· Understanding of telecommunications construction and engineering principles.
· Knowledge of industry regulations affecting engineering projects.
· Ability to design fiber optic circuits and manage cutovers.
· Familiarity with company products, services, and policies.
· Proficiency with office tools (PC, email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Lode Data, GIS, etc.).
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
· Capable of differentiating wire sizes and colors.
· Able to operate computer and fiber test equipment.
· May work in dusty, noisy environments or near electrical equipment.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
· Safe operation of company vehicles is required.
