Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee our daily operations and drive the strategic direction of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a proven track record in project management, business development, and process improvement. This role is essential in ensuring operational efficiency, enhancing productivity, and achieving business goals.
The Operations Manager owns plant performance from raw-stock receipt through finished-part shipment. You will lead all production, inventory, logistics, and continuous-improvement activities while coaching a 25-person team of machinists, material handlers, and support staff. Success is measured by safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost targets.
· Build and maintain the master schedule for CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and saws.
· Balance capacity, changeovers, and labor to maximize spindle utilization and on-time delivery.
· Publish daily/weekly KPI dashboards covering OTD, setup vs. run hours, and machine uptime.
· Control steel bar, block, and forging inventory; ensure accurate cycle counts.
· Coordinate inbound freight, outside heat-treat/coating, and outbound LTL/flatbed shipments.
· Eliminate stockouts and minimize aged/slow-moving inventory through data analysis.
· Hire, train, coach, and performance-manage machinists, saw operators, and material handlers.
· Drive a safety-first culture, maintain 5S, and chair the monthly safety committee.
· Ensure processes meet ISO 9001, customer specs, and ASTM tool-steel standards.
· Lead MRB reviews, root-cause analyses, and corrective-action implementation.
· Champion lean projects (Kaizen, SMED, cellular flow) to cut setup time, scrap, and WIP.
· Own the operations budget for labor, consumables, and maintenance; beat cost and throughput targets.
· Administer ERP/MRP (Epicor or similar) and Monday.com dashboards for real-time visibility.
· Partner with Finance to improve labor-rate application, WIP accuracy, and standard costing.
· Join key customer calls, plant visits, and supplier audits to represent manufacturing capabilities.
· Resolve expedites, quality escapes, and capacity constraints collaboratively.
· Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or similar — OR — 10 + years progressive leadership in a CNC job shop or metals distribution facility.
· 5 + years managing people, production schedules, and budgets.
· Proven lean/continuous-improvement experience (VSM, 5S, Kanban, SMED).
· Working knowledge of tool-steel grades (H-series, P-series, 4140/4340, etc.) and machining best practices.
· Proficiency with modern ERP/MRP systems and Excel/Power BI; basic SQL or VBA a plus.
· Familiarity with Monday.com, Tableau, or other visual-management tools.
· Split between office (40 %) and shop floor (60 %); must lift up to 40 lbs and navigate around cranes and machines.
· Standard schedule M–F, 7 am–5 pm, with occasional evening/weekend support during critical runs or inventory counts.
