About This Job

Supervises all aspects of Coal and Pet-Coke bulk materials handling operations at Kinder Morgan Pier IX / X Terminal to include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems and responsible for safe and efficient movement of bulk material from Rail / Vessel to Storage and Storage to Vessel / Truck. Following Kinder Morgan and customer policies, procedures, safety rules, and federal and state laws.


Position Requirements


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage employees, assigning job tasks as necessary for the movement of coal / pet-coke products.

Establish and maintain necessary crew / work schedules to meet the customer needs while maintaining control of the established budget.

Manage all activities to include but not limited to: Rail, Vessel, and barge scheduling, flash / Incident reporting, ancillaries reporting, environmental compliance, customer interactions.

Follows and enforces all rules and procedures established by Kinder Morgan for the safe and efficient operation of bulk handling equipment.

Assures that new employees are trained as necessary for tasks to be performed.

Job Postings – must create and follow through to completion on the hiring of employees.

Job Progression – KM has a job progression program for the advancement of the employees. It is your responsibility to manage this and to present it at company set times.

Understands and can communicate knowledge and understanding to others of bulk handling & bulk material handling operations.

Train and develop subordinates in bulk unloading and loading operations.

Work with the electrical, mechanical, and heavy equipment maintenance crews to facilitate electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.

Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Interprets specifications, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.

Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

Has understanding and grasp of environmental impact of coal and pet-coal bulk handling operations and ensure environmental compliance and record keeping is always obtained.

Stays abreast of changes in working conditions or modern technology that could increase the safety and efficiency of the operations employees.

Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of coal and pet-coal bulk operations.

Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.

Maintains payroll and overtime documentation and works with the Admin. Assistant regarding employee time records and weekly time sheets issues.

Organizes and maintains an accurate record keeping process for site operations.

Confers as a focal point with other managers in the organization to coordinate activities of individual departments.

Work directly with the customers on scheduling, handling, and care of their materials.

Inspects, directs, and maintains the properties either owned or leased by Kinder Morgan.


Position Requirements


Education:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.

Must be familiar with the USCG regulatory rules for dock or marine terminal operations.

Must possess understanding of bulk handling operations and associated equipment.

Must be willing to work shift and/or overtime hours during the week and/or weekends as dictated by operations.

Must be willing to carry company issued cellular telephone/radio and be on-call for work as may be required, assigned, and scheduled.

Must have or develop understanding of Galahad Bulk inventory management system software and hardware.

Must be able to manage multiple tasks successfully and simultaneously, and work with minimal direct supervision.

Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to the Gulf Bulk business segment and associated business units.

Ability to collaborate with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules.

Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge/understanding of bulk materials handling.

Must have the ability to communicate this knowledge/understanding.


Certifications, License, Registrations:

Must pass and complete safety training /certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan.

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license and have willingness to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment must pass and complete any required Kinder Morgan specific safety training as may be required by customers and as required at all Kinder Morgan work locations.

Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones, such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security i.e., obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Card, TWIC.


Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient PC Skills; MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and other Office Suite general products.


Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders.

Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects and see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality (as necessary)

Must be able to manage multiple tasks successfully and simultaneously, and work with minimal direct supervision.

Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to the material handling business segment, associated business units, and internal and external customers.

Experience in developing, implementing, and successfully managing operating budgets.

Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager)

Solid leadership, communication, motivation and people skills, and the ability to manage project(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.

Must be able to collaborate with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The ability to accept after-hour callouts and weekend duty in rotation.


Supervisor Responsibility:

Supervise multiple employees at multiple addresses. Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.


Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree or minimum 5 years' experience or a combination of education and experience requirement.


Other Responsibilities:

Must be willing to travel out of town for extended periods of time.

To appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
