Job Title: Operations Manager
Location: Sanlo, Inc. - Michigan City, Indiana
Department: Rope & Assemblies Division, Production
Reports to: Division President
General Purpose of the Position:
The Operations Manager is responsible for all manufacturing and related operations at the facility, including direct management of production, quality, planning and scheduling, and maintenance; in addition, the position also provides on-site support for quality, safety, shipping, and purchasing. The Operations Manager drives the growth of production, revenue and the quality of the goods produced in the facility, while maintaining compliance with Company standards and regulatory requirements. Responsible for driving continuous improvement in workforce performance and maintenance of a positive workplace culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand, comply, and enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee all activities directly related to the manufacture and supply of goods.
- Review manufacturing schedules and orders to ensure that schedules are being achieved.
- Verify that procedures are followed to ensure efficient labor utilization.
- Ensure that scrap is kept to a minimum, monitor scrap levels through reports and take necessary steps when levels are high.
- Provide input for new product development, evaluate results of initial trial and production runs, and ensure that best practices are implemented.
- Manage staff levels to meet the requirements of the facility.
- Work with HR on recruitment, hiring, terminations, and performance management.
- Lead and mentor department managers and supervisors to achieve targets.
- Directly supervise maintenance department and various other ancillary service positions.
- Train, coach, and evaluate team performance, addressing performance issues promptly and professionally.
- Interact with suppliers and customers on a variety of issues including quality, delivery and corrective actions.
- Manage morale in the facility by setting and demonstrating a strong business ethic.
- Enhance and develop policies and procedures to meet the goals of the facility.
- Ensure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
- As required, visit customer locations to become familiar with their process needs.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Develop and present plans for capital projects including building maintenance and manufacturing equipment.
- Develop and present annual budgets for the facility and work with staff to make sure everyone understands their role in achieving or exceeding the yearly budgets.
- Enhance the organization’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and fully exploring new product opportunities when presented.
- Always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the Company in a positive manner.
- Ensure the facility is kept clean and organized and provides a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Post secondary diploma or degree in a business technical field preferred.
- Three or more years of management experience in a manufacturing environment with proven leadership abilities.
- Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of preferred education requirement.
- Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on plant and business processes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation.
- Excellent computer skills including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Experience with ERP systems; Microsoft D365 a plus
