Midwest Natural Gas, Inc. is seeking a full-time Service Technician to join our team in the Independence, WI service territory. This position plays a critical role in the safe, reliable operation of our natural gas distribution system while delivering high-quality service to our customers.
- Install, relocate, replace, maintain, and repair natural gas lines and related facilities.
- Read, set, remove, and maintain gas meters.
- Perform pipeline patrols, leak surveys, inspections, and facility maintenance in accordance with company procedures.
- Locate and mark underground facilities per the Company Damage Prevention Program and One-Call requirements.
- Inspect and oversee construction and maintenance activities performed by contractors and third parties.
- Participate in emergency response activities, including after-hours callouts.
- Perform mapping, recordkeeping, documentation, and data entry in compliance with company policies.
- Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company standards, safety rules, regulatory requirements, and tariffs.
- Demonstrate a commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Customer-focused mindset.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, follow procedures, and maintain attention to detail.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the Company and its insurers.
- Ability to achieve and maintain required Operator Qualifications (OQ) and job progression requirements.
- Willingness to carry a company-provided cell phone and respond during both working and non-working hours.
- Available and willing to travel and support other service territories on short notice.
- Must live in or be willing to relocate within the Independence service territory.
- Position is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing.
- Experience in underground utility locating.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, regulators, relief valves, and meter sets.
- Experience working with high- and low-pressure gas systems.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), minimum Class B (preferred but not required)
